61. My dad just had something like that. Except he actually passed out.
Apparently one of the two main blood vessels to the head in the neck was blocked. Not a problem since the one can cover both, but you get lightheaded and possibly faint. It's only a problem if you don't go to the hospital immediately.

I'm surry Reid will be just fine. Thank God for that!

That's what I thought you were talking about at first.

Widow awarded $253 million in first Vioxx trial
Fri Aug 19, 2005 04:56 PM ET

By Matt Daily

ANGLETON, Texas (Reuters) - A Texas jury in the first Vioxx case to go to trial on Friday found pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. negligent in the death of man taking the drug and awarded his widow $253 million in damages.

The stunning verdict was certain to be greatly reduced under Texas law, but it sent Merck's stock sharply down as investors feared it could set a precedent for more than 4,200 lawsuits charging the company hid the heart attack and stroke risks of the big-selling painkiller.

Merck pulled the drug off the market in September last year after it said it became clear its long-term usage could double users' risk of heart attack or stroke.

It shares fell $2.35, or 7.73 percent, to $28.06 and exerted the largest drag on the Dow, although the average rose 4.3 to 10559.23.

71. What did Joe Vialls die of suddenly like Robin Cook after being in good
health. A friend wrote on Vialls' site about his passing and said that Vialls was one of the very few who could have gotten to the bottom of the responsibility for the London bombing and that Vialls' files were being deleted by....someone. And that if anyone wanted Vialls' work on the Globalists' corruption to download them now.

http://joevialls.lvo.infoBack in 1945 the OSS (forerunner of the present-day CIA) planned to bring the "unbridled brutality of Japanese troops" under control by use of artificially triggered earthquakes. "If we could could get (an atom) bomb within a mile of a point on a fault line(trench) destined to break within 90 years we might set it off ..."

Since this secret paper was written, the modern-day CIA has had sixty years to get its nuclear numbers right - just in time for the shattering war crime against
South and South-East Asia which murdered more than 300,000 people on December 26, 2004. - Joe Vialls

Joe Vialls died of a mysterious illness July 18, 2005, a friend posted this on his site stating that Joe would have been one of the few who could get to the bottom of the London Bombings and on a separate page posted an email address to send condolances to his family.

I wish the best for Sen. Reid. The fact that all of Congress including Conyers, Kennedy, Kerry, Boxer, Louis Slaughter, EVERY SENATOR AND EVERY REPRESENTATIVE EXCEPT FOR TWO REPUBLICANS signed the NATIONAL ID CARD in a late night session after the Cessna flew over the White House.

70. I always had my doubts about what was really wrong with Reagan esp.
when he was in the White House and wasn't the timing of his death to distract from Abu Ghraib photos. And didn't Bush, Junior make the insensitive remark about Clinton's heart surgery that he hoped that Kerry did not get a bounce in the polls if Clinton dies like Junior did when Reagan died.

W really is the boy king and I think more and more his pedophile, satanic father abused W and put him in an MK-ULTRA program.

The run to Offutt Airbase on 911 which was notorious for being run by avowed satanist Aquino and one of the many military bases with the CIA's sick MK-ULTRA programs.

-and, don't ask me what it means, I forgot....but, it's a mild stroke. Problem with them is, sometimes its a precursor for something bigger. However, now they know to keep an eye on him. And, fighting the lunacy of Rethug Freepers would give almost anyone a stroke. Seriously, God bless Harry Reid, Cindy's Mom, and Coretta Scott King.

76. It IS a TIA
My husband has had one. (Over two years ago.) CNN has interviewed a doctor who has identified it as a TIA, and it really isn't a stroke. (I repeatedly asked my husband's doctors if the term "mild stroke" was accurate and they said no. )
The key is the "T" --it stands for "transient," which means the condition only hangs on long enough to cause dizziness and other temporarysymptoms, and then clears up...causing the condition to reverse itself. I'm sure they've MRI'd the senators neck to see if there are any residual problems in his carotid artery.
If my husband's doctor's were correct, it's likely to be caused by stress plus physical fatigue, and it's a good idea to loosen one's shirt collars. (I'm not kidding.)
Although it can be a forewarning of a real stroke...it doesn't have to be. Senator Reid should get some good rest during this break. Let's not get too worried yet.

72. I second your good wishes for Cindy's mom, Sen. Reid and Mrs. King
Its' true working in Washington DC is very hard on your health.

Jane Alexander quite her job at the National Endowment for the Arts after her son-in-law had a heart attack (survived). She said that when she went to visit her heart doctor there would be a number of her high-level enemies in the heart doctors office.

Very heart-breaking conditions for any job on Capitol Hill or NIH or any government agency.

Best wishes Sen. Reid, Cindy and your mom and Mrs. King.

Bush Neighbor Lets War Protesters Use Land
By ANGELA K. BROWN, Associated Press Writer

CRAWFORD, Texas - War protesters camping in roadside ditches near President Bush’s ranch have accepted a neighbor’s offer to stay on his property, and their vigil will be joined this week by FBI whistleblower Coleen Rowley and by another mother whose soldier-son died in Iraq.

The neighbor, Army veteran Fred Mattlage, said he sympathizes with participants in the vigil started Aug. 6 by Cindy Sheehan, who lost her 24-year-old son in Iraq last year. The makeshift camp off the winding, two-lane road to Bush’s ranch has angered residents and snarled traffic.

“I just think people should have a right to protest without being harassed,” Mattlage told The Associated Press. “And I’m against the war. I don’t think it’s a war we need to be in.....

Keep showing your support by writing Cindy, she said she would be back soon and the more people who show support for Cindy may embolden the Pentagon, CIA, FBI, Congress, Fitzgerald and the 3 different Grand Juries investigating Bush Crimes, the Judge who is continuing to order Bush and DoD to release the torture photos and video of children and brave supporters like Mr. Mattlage.

23. i don't know much about strokes
i just know that they can be very serious and really affect the person including death.

but there are also times when they seem to have no affect in terms of a person's ability to do things. and people only know they had it after a doctor tells them. it looks like and hopefully this is the case with Reid.

28. "transient ischemic attack" is what you are thinking of.
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 07:57 PM by Ilsa
If he gets past having a stroke over the next couple of days, then the risk of having another one drops to about 10% for the next few months, if it was from stenosis of a carotid artery. They have to make sure there is no hemorrhage in the brain. It can be considered a warning event for a bigger episode if it isn't diagnosed and treated first.

surgeries, and they went very well. They'll check for degree of occlusion if that is the problem. Last I heard, the surgery isn't done unless the artery is highly occluded.

32. Reid Mini-Stroke Not Uncommon
Often called mini-strokes, transient ischemic attacks such as that suffered by Sen. Harry Reid can cause brief but frightening stroke-like symptoms.
The good news: These attacks do no permanent damage to the brain.
The bad news: About one-third of the people who experience a TIA will later suffer a stroke.

A TIA can serve as a warning of a potential stroke and an opportunity to take steps to prevent it, the Mayo Clinic reports.
A look at transient ischemic attacks:
Q. What is a transient ischemic attack?
A. It is a temporary disturbance in part of the brain, usually lasting only a few minutes, though symptoms can sometimes persist for a few hours.
Q. What causes it?
A. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, the cause is an interruption to the brain's blood supply. This can happen when cholesterol containing fatty deposits, or a blood clot moving from another part of the body, temporarily blocks a blood vessel.

Q. What are the symptoms?
A. Symptoms are similar to a stroke and can include weakness of the face, arm or leg; slurred or garbled speech; dizziness; sudden blindness in one or both of the eyes; or double vision.
Q. Is there any treatment?
A. A person with those symptoms needs prompt medical evaluation to determine if he is having a TIA or a stroke. A doctor may recommend drugs to increase the blood flow and reduce the blockage or even surgery to prevent the eventual stroke.

Q. Who is at risk?
A. Risk increases as people age. A family history of strokes increases the danger. Men, black people and smokers are at higher risk, as are people with high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease.

Damn. First Mrs. King then Cindy Sheehan's mom and now Harry.

Why the hell can't Ann Coulter get an ingrown hair on her beard and drop dead?

38. 1/3 go onto have an actual stroke. I do not see this a good odds.

.....A transient ischemic attack is described by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke as a transient stroke that lasts a few minutes and occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is briefly interrupted.

Symptoms including weakness and dizziness usually occur suddenly and are similar to those of stroke, but usually disappear within an hour, though they may persist for up to 24 hours.

Reid canceled some events this week, including a planned speech in Reno on Saturday to the Associated Press Television-Radio Association of California and Nevada. Hafen said he would be taking it easy for the next several days but will not have to curtail his normal activities in the long term.

The National Stroke Association says transient ischemic attack, considered a type of mini-stroke, is a brief episode of stroke symptoms that usually last less than 24 hours and usually does not involve any permanent loss of abilities. One in three people who experience a TIA go on to have an actual stroke, the NSA reports on its Web site.

63. I was thinking CIA instead of Pat
I heard awhile back that the CIA had developed a drug for causing people to develop cancer. If they can develop a drug for cancer, maybe they can develop a drug for stroke also.

Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 09:14 PM by nuxvomica
With all the plotting and coordinated attacking the RW does, a Democratic leader must work extra hard just to stand up straight against the onslaught. No need for tinfoil hat theorizing on this one. The well organized conspiracy of lying among the WH, the Congress, the well-funded "think tanks" and the partisan media is enough to take its toll. Reid's a tough guy but I hope he rests enough and gets the right treatment.

77. Replace him immediately !!!!!!
I wish we lived in a world where the afflictions of our political leaders could be viewed as personal challenges. I have three immediate family members who are stroke survivors and know that higher profiled stroke survivors and their subsequent successes are important to all stroke survivors. However, this matter now is much like blood to an angry shark. The Neocons will feast on this weakness. We haven't the luxury to, at this point in time, stand with grace on human frailties. Remember to beat a Neocon , you must think like one. Sorry!
