Snubinator? Gov. Schwarzenegger says he won't attend UC Merced opening

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will not attend the opening-day ceremony for the University of California, Merced, disappointing some who wanted to see the state's leader christen the first new UC to be built in the past 40 years.

UC Merced Chancellor Carol Tomlinson-Keasey said the governor's office on Wednesday night told her Schwarzenegger could not attend because of 30 to 40 other public appearances he has to make in a short period of time.

... Tomlinson-Keasey said the campus still plans to have a "fabulous" opening day with confirmed guests like Schwarzenegger's predecessors, former Gov. Gray Davis, former Gov. George Deukmejian and Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante.

... Schwarzenegger has had bad luck at California colleges this summer, drawing jeers and union protests at two speeches.

last November... His office promised for months that he would be there. Then tey canceled for no good reason.. Bastard!
