The U.S. chief negotiator at six-party talks on North Korea¡¯s nuclear program, Christopher Hill, said Wednesday the U.S. was prepared to replace the armistice that ended the Korean War with a proper peace treaty to show it is not hostile to Pyongyang.

During a speech on the six-party talks at the Asia Society in Washington, Hill said a peace treaty involving the two Koreas, the United States and China had already been discussed both during and prior to the talks. He said Washington was interested in a peace treaty if Pyongyang wanted it, but the six-party talks were not the right place to discuss the issue. He vowed the U.S. would do everything it can to resolve the nuclear dispute with North Korea, and had let his North Korean counterpart know through its UN embassy that "we should be in touch if there are issues he would like to raise and that I would be ready to be in touch."
