‘US mly presence in Kyrgyzstan will end’

MOSCOW: There is "no doubt" that the US military presence in Kyrgyzstan will end as the new leadership in the Central Asian state does not intend to allow it to continue indefinitely, a top Russian lawmaker said on Friday.

"In the eyes of the new Kyrgyz leadership, the issue of the withdrawal of the Americans must be resolved when the time comes," Sergei Mironov, leader of the upper house of the Russian parliament, the Federation Council, told a small group of journalists.

For the newly-elected president of Kyrgyzstan, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, "there is no doubt that they will leave," although his administration has not yet set a deadline for them to do so, Mironov stated.

His comments came less than three weeks after the government of another key Central Asian state, Uzbekistan, evicted the US forces from the country’s territory, giving them 180 days to clear out.

4. the SCO is setting up buffers in Asia
Afghanistan will be the real test of that particular campaign.

China has made some forward advances in Africa and South America, and is allying itself with Venezuela and others. That will probably get "hot" so to speak.

7. The Russians and Chinese don't want us there.

Karamov is pissed off that the US would condemn him for shooting a bunch of unarmed protesters. He's displaying his anger by closing the airbase. We'll see what happens because Uzbekistan is so poor he may just change his mind if offered enough money.

Not sure about the other stans though.

9. I know a few people from the region
They have said that the old Soviet republics of central Asia have no real loyalties, they just play one side against the other to keep raising the pot. Someone is making the pot sweeter for them.
