Jury: Parents Share Blame in Son's Attack

The parents of a teenager who stabbed a 13-year-old girl must bear most of the responsibility, jurors decided as they awarded $10 million to the injured victim and her family.

Lance and Diane White share 70 percent of the blame for the 2003 attack on Casey Hilmer, the Hamilton County jury found Friday. Their son Benjamin, who was 17 at the time, bears the rest.

"It sends a message to parents that even if the child is 11 days shy of 18 years old, a parent is liable for the supervision and control of their children and what they entrust them with," said attorney Stanley Chesley, who represented the Hilmer family.

Benjamin White had grabbed Casey as she was jogging in suburban Indian Hills, dragged her to a wooded area and stabbed her in the face and neck.

1. Smirk and Pickles should take responsibility for their reprobate kids
The two drunk, irresponsible, coddled, "I'm entitled" little bimbos aren't the only ones who should have been punished for underage drinking, using phony drivers' licenses, etc. Smirk and Pickles, failed parents if there ever were a pair, should have been forced by the courts to take responsibility.

2. how about Babs and Pap Bush taking responsibility for bushie
You know -- the guy who lives sometimes at the White House in D.C. and at other times at that Pig Farm in Crawford, Texas.

Seems like Babs and Pap should stripped of all their assets and tossed out on the street, for their crime of raising a criminal like bushie.

5. Nothing new here
Parents have long been held to be liable for intentional torts committed by their minor children.

7. Exactly Pigwidgeon
How can they try him as an adult yet hold his parents at fault because he was a minor? Seems the courts are contradicting themselves.

8. The courts are full of contradictory and nonsensical rulings anymore.
Like one attorney once said to me (when I was young and naive) "Justice doesn't have a damn thing to do with the court system."
