http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/newssentinel/news/local/12446567.htmThe Army has ordered about 2,500 military Humvees that can more readily carry or shed armor following criticism that lighter models left U.S. soldiers vulnerable to roadside explosions and other attacks in Iraq, a report said.
AM General’s Mishawaka plant is producing two- and four-seat versions of the M-1151, a weapons carrier, and the M-1152, a multipurpose vehicle, company spokesman Craig Mac Nab said.

“The Army chose a long time ago to ship them to Ohio. That’s the way it had been done from the beginning, and there was a reason to do that, at the time,” Mac Nab said. “It’s more efficient now to do it here.”
An assembly line for the civilian Hummer H1 made at Mishawaka was converted for the armor assembly line. The change will not affect production of the H1, Mac Nab said.
What should be asked is what took them so long - this should've happened 2 years ago! Glad Rummie and his band weren't in charge during WWII or as the Koolaid drinkers like to put it - we'd all be speaking German or Japanese!
