Bush supporters clash with anti-war activists in California

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Supporters of President Bush clashed with anti-war activists as they wound their way through California after rallying in the hometown of Cindy Sheehan, the mother who started a protest camp outside Bush's Texas ranch.

Conservative activists and military families embarked on the tour Monday, calling it "You don't speak for me, Cindy!" A verbal confrontation erupted when the caravan arrived in Sacramento and was met by anti-war protesters chanting for Bush to bring home the troops.

Sheehan supporter Dan Elliott, 71, confronted caravan members by waving a sign reading "Death is not support" and heckling one of the tour's organizers as she addressed the crowd.

....

Some caravan members called the anti-war protesters communists and said they were "aiding and abetting the enemy." Those comments enraged Sheehan supporter Dee Ann Heath, who said she has two sons serving in Iraq and another preparing to leave.

He changed his methods depending on the situation.

If someone hits me, they should expect to be CRIPLED.

They may fight to "win" - we should fight to "kill".

Up the price they must pay - but only as a last resort, and if they take the first swing.

They may start it - but we will "finish" it.

The time for turning the other check is nearing an end - we only have 4, and so far their all walloped pretty good!

12. Go, Dan Elliott! 71, and taking no crap from anybody!
These war supporters are making perfect idiots of themselves! Imagine yelling things at a mother with two sons in Iraq!

(And I'd be interested to dip into their heads for just a brief moment, to figure out what they mean by "communists." What does being a "communist" have to do with anything? It's so irrelevant. Couldn't someone be a patriotic American--patriotic in a good way--and be a "communist" (in favor of sharing the wealth, and sticking it to the rich)? I mean, there were lots and lots of Russians who were patriotic and communists. Mother Russia and all that. And Chinese. And Cubans. Where are they getting this word from? Who is feeding it to them? And what do they mean by it? I find it really weird.)

32. Oh, they said the same thing about the Vietnamese! "The enemy."
Remember "America, love it or leave it"? If you hated their horrible, genocidal war, you were "aiding the enemy." The thing is, though, that the Vietnamese didn't need anybody's help to kick the biggest military machine in human history out of their country. They were fighting for their HOMELAND, just as we would do, if we were invaded--and just as the Iraqis are doing. It is major stupidity and hubris to put people in that position--to dare them to defend their HOME--because they will persevere no matter what--in sandals and straw hats and surviving in tunnels under the ground. With no air force. With no navy. With few weapons of any kind (compared to the aggressor). They will shoot you with arrows if they have to. And they WILL win.

"Aiding the enemy." That's the problem. The American people never get to choose these "enemies." They are chosen for us, and forced upon us. Here's a reply for antiwar protesters who get accused of this: "Who is 'enemy,' brother (or sister)? The Iraqi people or the Halliburton war profiteers? And who is 'aiding' the REAL enemy? Not me!"

But bear this in mind. Nothing's going to change until we throw these corporate voting machines, with their SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code, into 'Boston Harbor' (so to speak). We are NOT going to get out of this war as things stand, with major wingers controlling the vote count. They won't just be "electing" Bushites; they will also be able to select who we get to vote for, in our own party (in the primaries). And, because the Bushites are so incompetent, our Corporate Rulers are going to have to get a War Democrat in there to keep the U.S. military in Iraq and in the Middle East in general It's becoming pretty clear that's what the plan is.

Said War Democrat will promise to "bring the troops home" some time or another, and NOT to loot Social Security (--that's about all we'll get out of it--NOT looting Social Security). And the war will go on as planned; the hogfeasting war contractors will go on getting their rich slop; we'll have a draft (for sure), and some incident will be created (read: Gulf of Tonkin) to invade Iran. The War Democrat will then get blamed for "the mess"--whatever Bushturds the War Democrat is unable to clean up (short memory of news monopolies, as to who exactly created "this mess")--and we'll get Jeb in '12. More tax cuts for the rich. More war. Until we are drained dry--of young people, money and resources--and they have no more use for us. (Then, on to South America or China, for the Cartel, I guess.)

Sickening, isn't it? But this is not far from what is really going to happen, I think--UNLESS WE CLEAN UP OUR ELECTION SYSTEM WHILE WE STILL HAVE THAT POWER. The bipartisan corruption in the new electronic voting boondoggle, at the local level, is a formidable obstacle, but it's still doable. And we had better get on it (those of us who aren't already). Our democracy is hanging in the balance.

36. Priority number ONE is to return to paper and pen voting, hand-counted
....UNLESS WE CLEAN UP OUR ELECTION SYSTEM WHILE WE STILL HAVE THAT POWER...

Exactly on point, Peace Patriot. Good post, BTW.

The number ONE priority we should be pushing to our Senators/Reps, with all the raw energy we can muster, is immediate return to paper and pen voting, hand-counted at each precinct, under the watch of many observers, with vote totals called in by phone to the Supervisor of Elections' office.

All voting machines/software, punch cards, optical scanners, central tabulators should be surgically cut out of our voting process.

If we are not successful in preserving the authenticity and sanctity of our vote, we will lose our country forever as a democracy.

This is truly the frightening bottom line for America.

58. "Communists"...Are These People Stuck in the 60's, or What?
Putting aside for the moment that Communism as an economic system has utterly failed worldwide, WTF is up with using this outdated term as a slur? Talk about being stuck in the Stone Age!

96. They just ran out of ideas.
They don't spend any time thinking at all, so they just go back to insults that no one's used in about 15 years.

60. Libbies are damned commies
You people know that, right? Sort of how giving free health care to Iraqis is sound foreign policy, whereas giving it to you fellow Americans is socialism. Those freetards know what they are talking about...their experience comes from supporting a leader like Trotsky Bush.

61. Bush Supporters, Activists Clash in Calif.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Supporters of
President Bush clashed with anti-war activists as they wound their way through California after rallying in the hometown of Cindy Sheehan, the mother who started a protest camp outside Bush's Texas ranch.

"You are ruining the morale over there," responded Greg Parkinson, a Bush supporter.

66. How did we get to this point?
This is all so messed up. We are law abiding, we pay taxes, we have the right to speak up against pre-emptive invasion and all our our tax money being squandered to no apparent purpose. Doesn't it hurt morale when Bush takes five-week fun vacations instead of paying attention to them? Doesn't it hurt morale when Halliburton routinely loses millions of dollars at a time while veterans' benefits are being cut? Doesn't it hurt morale when religious loonies say it's cheaper just to assassinate foreign leaders than to launch invasions (which could be read as veiled commentary on the carnage and waste going on in Iraq?)

73. We've got to stop ruining the morale over there!
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 05:08 PM by GoddessOfGuinness
We should be focusing on how great it'll be when our troops come home and can play golf on all those great courses...the guys that still have arms, at least. :eyes:

And what about the terrific health care our government provides them with. They can go to any hospital in the country, as long as it accepts their insurance. :eyes:

Let's not forget how well our vets from other wars live...how well they're taken care of. :eyes:

Ok...maybe we shouldn't talk about those things to lift the morale of our troops. Maybe we should just shut up and sing God Bless America, as the rethugs do.

Or maybe we should just keep telling the truth until those who've been blinded by patriotic fervor get the message.

76. Has the "Swiftboat" liar money run out?
Why aren't the fatcat oilmen who have always (and that means always -- including his "businessman" days) bankrolled Bush sending a fleet of well-funded lackeys in to fight their battles? A little caravan of warmongers is all they coughed up?
And Bush says the economy is improving.

81. Pssst. Here's a little info on that caravan of Repug's:
Courtesy of Ninkasi in this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4438691#4438997

When the MAF website first went up this take a look at who is was registered to:

The .com address was first registered using this information:

Registrant:
Russo Marsh & Rogers
770 L Street, #950
Sacramento, CA 95814
US

That’s right, this genuine act of patriotism is brought to you by the Republican public relations firm Russo Marsh and Rogers. The Move America Forward organization isn’t just based in the Bay Area, it’s based in the same offices as the Russo PR firm. Same receptionist answers calls for both organizations. Website was registered to the firm until they figured out that it wouldn’t look good if people knew that a PR firm was behind this ‘patriotic grassroots activist group.’

Can any DU'ers help us verify? Benburch said he'd try to verify tomorrow.
