Baghdad – The Iraqi government refused to comment on the news of the possibility of releasing the former Prime Minister of the former regime Tareq Aziz and Baathi leaders under arrest.
News media have noted that the Americans have prepared an 'initiative' to release Tareq aziz and a number of Baathi leaders, with the knowledge of the President Jalal Talebani, Masud Barzani, president of Kurdistan region, and the head of the former government Iyad Allawi.
Ali Al Adhadh, distinguished leader in the Supreme Council of the Islamic revolution said, "The American objective of such a bargain is to create a Baathi command under the supervision of historical identities of the former regime." He added, "The Americans believe that releasing Tareq Aziz and others would put an end to the military operations."
He added, "The bargain includes appointing Tareq Aziz to conduct contacts with Baathi leaders inside and outside Iraq, as he and other historical leaders can convince a wing of Baath to refrain from armed struggle and supporting terrorist organizations coming from abroad."
