Pelosi: President Bush Must Denounce Robertson's Call to Assassinate the President of Venezuela

WASHINGTON, Aug. 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on Pat Robertson's remarks this week that the United States assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez:

"President Bush must unequivocally denounce Pat Robertson's outrageous call for the United States to assassinate the President of Venezuela.

"At a time when the invasion of Iraq has caused such damage to the international reputation of the United States, the last thing we need is a prominent Republican advocating assassination as a foreign policy tool. President Bush must respond to the Robertson statement forcefully to make clear that his Administration not only understands the reasons why our law prohibits assassination, but is committed to following the law."

35. Where the hell is everyone else...meeting with advisors?
How bout a knee-jerk response like, "Is this guy alright?!? Suggesting to assassinate a foreign leader...and doing so from the pulpit of a church? What's wrong with him?"

Is kerry taking a poll on how people feel about this? What about the rest of them?

22. He didn't just "mean" assassinate, he *said* we "ought to" assassinate:
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 02:05 PM by Seabiscuit
"If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think we really ought to go ahead and do it," said Robertson on Monday's program. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war."

Robertson's nothing but lying scum like Rush Limbaugh.

He "meant" nothing.

24. But in the context of his own words, it can *only* mean "assasinate":
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/24/robertson.chavez/

"If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think we really ought to go ahead and do it," said Robertson on Monday's program. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war."

Then, in that context:

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," he said. "We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

Ipso facto: "take him out" = "assassinate" him.

Case closed.

7. Has Dick Durbin apologized again yet?
Remember Dick? He told the truth about the Gitmo concentration camp, but then cratered right before our very eyes and apologized.

But Republicans understand never to apologize -- even if they say the most fascist, anti-Democratic and abhhorrent things.

And by not apologizing for it, they give others aid and comfort to say similar things, demonize Progressives, and spew hate.

Progressives then become fearful and begin to remain silent.

Thanks, Dick!

20. Yeah, that always makes me furious
When the pukes can say anything...no matter how untrue or outrageous, and our side just listens politely, and lets it go. I'm glad Pelosi is speaking out, and demanding that this nutjob be made accountable.

The Stranger says "And by not apologizing for it, they give others aid and comfort to say similar things, demonize Progressives, and spew hate.
"
Well, it's time for that to stop. We have got to start speaking out, and speaking out loud. Cindy Sheehan knows how, now it's time for the rest of us.

I agree with you! Robertson needs to apologize. In fact he needs to give up the pulpit after saying what he did. He is no "man of God". He is nothing more than an evil hypocrite of the worst type. I am disgusted as an American citizen that a man in our country claiming to be a preacher would say something like this about someone in another country.

CONFESS YOUR UGLY SINS ROBERTSON and then, go away and find something else to do with yourself that is positive!

48. Ultimate Hypocrisy. Pelosi supports Political Assasinations
Please see this from the SF Chronicle, June 14th, 2003:
Washington -- Rep. Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the House Democratic leadership wrote President Bush on Friday criticizing him for saying he was "troubled" by Israel's failed attempt to kill a leader of the radical Palestinian Hamas group.

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2003/06/14/MN109701.DTL

This is a flagrant attack on International law, and Pelosi should know it. Pelosi can't have it both ways. First, she should apologize for her opposition with international law, before being critical of the Monster of Virgina.

Note also that in this case it was Bush, who at least gave lip service to international law, and not the unDemocratic Leadership.
