Bush spotlights mom of troops who backs Iraq war
"US President George W. Bush contrasted a military mother whose five sons and husband have served in Iraq with anti-war protestors he said risked emboldening terrorists."

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20050825/wl_afp/usiraqbush_050825073628

Now anyone who doesn't agree with official government policy "emboldens" terrorists. This phrase is only slightly different from "supporting" terrorists.

Let's not forget that it was Bush who "emboldened" terrorists when he allowed the Taliban visit Texas while he was governor, so that they could schmooze about an oil pipeline: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/west_asia/37021.stm

10. How supremely adolescent of Bush
He's like the bad boyfriend who gets so jealous and upstaged by the former girlfriend that he goes out and finds himself the diva from a school in another town so he can parade her around in front of his old girlfriend. "Look over here! Look at me. I AM loved. I AM more important!"
What next? He gets a chorus line of military moms?
He's missing the point. Mrs. Sheehan wants to talk about the war in Iraq. Not Bush's definition of patriotism. She wants to know exactly what Bush wanted to know when Clinton was president and we sent troops to Bosnia. What's the plan? What's the exit strategy? I want details.
Bush, as governor, demanded Clinton, as commander in chief, answer to the American people. Mrs. Sheehan is simply asking for the same.
Bush is an elected official. He says he doesn't have to answer questions. He's wrong. He needs to quit hiding behind Patriotic Mom's skirts and confront the American opposition.

25. Man, you make a lot of great points there, stanwyck.
What you've said here would be well worth repeating: Sheehan wants to know exactly what bush himself wanted to know when Clinton was president and we sent troops to Bosnia.

EXCELLENT POINT!

bush is an elected official. He says he doesn't have to answer questions, and he told Bob Woodward he didn't owe any explanations to anybody - that was the neat thing about being president, dontcha know? And he IS wrong. INCREDIBLY, OUTSTANDINGLY, SOLIDLY, 100,000 PERCENT WRONG. HE works for US. It's NOT the other way around. It's his job to answer to US - EVERY day. For EVERY move and decision and declaration he makes. HE works for US. WE are his employers. And he damned well IS answerable to us. And I hope somebody starts delivering that message to him. This isn't Imperial America. As much as he'd like it to be and is trying like hell to make it become. He is NOT a king. He is NOT a messiah. He is NOT the owner of America. WE own HIS ass because he works for US.

He is a PUBLIC SERVANT.

Even Prince Charles of England knows that. He's in line to be King of England and yet, the inscription on his coat of arms translates to "I SERVE."

9. She's a Real "Piece of Work"
Wait until one of her "OFFSPRING" gets Offed

The whole Charade reminded me of a History channel program on how Hitler went around Germany praising families who were having their sons join the SS.

This is typical Rove Bullshit

DEFLECT/ATTACK/VILIFY.

Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 05:49 AM by wake.up.america
Terrorists are emboldened by the presence of US troops in Iraq.

I have spoken with people from the Middle East here, who while not supporting the bombers, say the whole terrorism will stop once US troops leave.

How about getting some people from Iraq to talk about this to the US public????

11. Bush contacted her - not the other way around
How much do you want to bet that she was guaranteed that her husband and the one son that are back from Iraq would not have to return and the other 4 sons would not be put on dangerous missions?

Bush goes on and on saying that Sheenan's views don't represent most military families that he has spoken to... that is the point, he won't speak to anyone unless they agree with him.

12. I wondered about that myself
After all, with that many sons in Iraq, the chances are pretty good of injury or death to at least one of them. What an embarrassment it would be if, after bush's PR stunt, one loses an arm, leg, or worse.

Yes, I think a little match was made here.

20. So Much Truth in that Statement
"that is the point, he won't speak to anyone unless they agree with him."

Why do I read this story and get the image of Saddam patting that little boy on the head before the start of the first Gulf War?

"See, I'm not that bad of a guy. This little tyke just loves me".

14. She had NO moral authority
and we know she is in deep denial.

Plus she is being used.

I really feel sort of sorry for her.

Even if her sons manage to survive -- if they are normal they will more than likely have deep psychological wounds. Ask the Vietnam era vets --

Or maybe she's sufficiently inexpensive that a couple of tanks of
gas for her current SUV were enough.

17. As a veteran, I suppose I have a different point of view...
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 07:14 AM by ALiberalSailor
...but I appreciate when a mother is as supportive of her family's sacrifices as this one appears to have been. It's a choice we make when we join the military or marry into a military family. However, what is being done to the other mother who lost her son in Iraq is absolutely disgusting, horrific, and totally repulsive. And any attempt by anyone to suggest that a grieving mother is somehow helping to embolden the terrorists is equally off their rocker.

but I think what is galling people here is that she is being used to slam Cindy Sheehan. I mean, where was her 15 minutes of fame with Bush before he needed someone for a photo op???

26. Divided... Bush stands, United... Bush falls...
That is the only way Bush can win....he MUST keep the nation divided...abortion, gay marriage, flag burning, intelligent design...

If the Bush administration can continue to keep our country DIVIDED...Bush will win. IF....the country UNITES AGAINST the Bush administration...Bush will fall. (plain and simple)

Let's put "UNITED" back into the "UNITED" States.
