Less CIA in Bush's intelligence briefings

http://news.webindia123.com/news/showdetails.asp?id=110229&n_date=20050825&cat=World

Less CIA in Bush's intelligence briefings:-

The CIA now has a considerably smaller role in the daily intelligence briefing U.S. President George Bush gets, with as many as 14 other agencies reporting.

A presidential commission that examined flawed intelligence recommended the changes in March, and recommended alternate views should be included to the greatest extent feasible.

Intelligence officials who asked not to be named told USA Today the brief can be a dozen to 30 pages in length and amounts to a classified newspaper. Where there are disagreements among intelligence analysts, they are clearly pointed out.

As well, the daily report on terrorism threats, which used to be given to the president separately, is now part of his daily brief.

12. Hitler at the end of WW2
When it was beyond a doubt that the German army had been defeated on the eastern front by soviet forces Hitler was still planning strategies and counter attacks with non-existant units. In the end all he had was complete fantasy.

Madmen throughout history act the same.

18. Bingo
Man, I've come such a long way into my radical thought. When I first started on DU I thought ANY Nazi comparsions were hyperbole. But some really do fit and it's damn scary. I was going to post-the "President" doesn't need any CIA informaton anyway-he can just make shit up and call it a day. That's what he did to get into Iraq-well not exactly-what he did was have Cheney visit the intelligence analysts and have them doctor their reports so it made a case for war that wasn't there. In the end it's the same thing.

When you make up your mind based on IDEOLOGY-it doesn't matter whether it's true or whether it will work. It's your idea damn it and you're sticking to it. Isn't that Bush in a nutshell?

It's becoming more and more like Bushworld everyday. "I'm not on vacation-I'm having the White House renovated." "We are making progress in Iraq." sure...whatever you say emperor

23. What you say is true. They create their own delusion and,...
,...no matter what reality or facts dictate, they not only stubbornly maintain their delusion, they also try like hell to pull others into it.

It's not Bush,...it's the whole neoCON cult blended with reconstructionists and corporatists,...a frightening pack of dangerous, delusional people who hold power over the people and resources of this nation. :scared:

It's horrible that this great nation finds itself under the thumb of such delusional and destructive human beings. Will we not only learn from this experience but also find a way to prevent this abuse from happening in the future? Until there are REAL LAWS forcing government transparency and accountability, we will always be at risk of such exploitation.

2. You can bet it is way to detailed for George to deal with.
If it doesn't fit on a 1/4 page executive summary that Condi can read to him, he doesn't get it.

6. The briefs include many line drawings, so he can color.
Seriously though, it seems to me that this fits Bush's (neocon's) plans to shift intel-gathering, as well as covert-ops to the Defense Dept. and away from the CIA with it's Congressional oversight.

Given past history, when Bush is faced with conflicting intel analysis, he will chose that analysis that serves Bushco's aims.

scratches head and wonders how many folks have access to the PDB and are those folks who would make an off the cuff comment like that:

basically a classified newspaper?

9. Rumsfeld's "Office of Special Plans"...
There is a fantastic front page article in today's (Aug.25,2005) Los Angeles Times, entitled "A CIA Cover Blown, a White House Exposed" (Get a copy if you can, it is excellent...) But...

...in that article it stated:

"Rumsfeld's Pentagon established an INDEPENDENT INTELLIGENCE OPERATION, the Office of Special Plans, which essentially provided the Defense Department and White House with AN ALTERNATIVE to CIA and State Department intelligence. The competing operations would create confusion in preparations for the invasion of Iraq."

This article is EXPLOSIVE...read it if you can!

26. Link to the LA Times...
I read it in the Los Angeles Times on the 25th....fascinating article. Sorry I can't link directly, but it you go to Eloriel's post above...you can link to the article. The exact quote is after the title, "Cheney, Libby, and the CIA" (near the middle of that particular section.) Thanks for the welcome.

16. Sounds like Bush killing dissent again.
Considering the fact that the Office of Special Plans is what got him into the Iraq boondoggle (no doubt at Bush's behest) in the first place, I see this as a rather frightening development. Basically what's happening is that our government is being redesigned to ensure that the party line regarding which country gets hit next has no dissenters to point out inconvenient facts that might make it to the public's ears.

Truth loses again.

Rand Beers was right: they know what they're going to do; on occasion they'll look for justification, but otherwise information is irrelevant.
