Sharpton plans to join Peace Mom Cindy Sheehan
August 25, 2005, 6:23 PM EDT

Rev. Al Sharpton plans to join peace activist Cindy Sheehan, known as the Peace Mom, on Sunday near President Bush's Texas ranch.

Sharpton's office said Thursday he would participate in a prayer vigil Sunday with Sheehan in Crawford, Texas. Sheehan returned on Wednesday to Camp Casey, named after her 24-year-old son, Army Spc.

Casey Sheehan, who was killed last year in Iraq.

Sheehan began her vigil on the road leading to Bush's ranch Aug.

1. Sharpton is a lowlife political opportunist
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 06:33 PM by ItsTheMediaStupid
He's got a lot more in common with Rove than with Cindy Sheehan.

I wish he'd stay in NY.

Am I the only one who remembers his role in the fake abuse claims of Tawana Brawley (sp?).

67. I Confused.
It was my impression during the primaries that Sharpton was taken quite seriously by most "mainstream" news organizations. Sure they asked him some really difficult questions about his past and kept him off point, but I wasn't hearing a lot of jokes. Look at NBC for example. He got the full Hardball and MTP spotlight and both shows did a relatively good job in their presentation. You watched Morten Downey Jr. too many times in the 80's.

130. This is very good
Very few Blacks are involved in this particular struggle and Sharpton will change that dramatically. You may not like him and think bad thought about him but most blacks like and admire him very much. He has a way with words that cut to the quick. This is a huge plus for our side and I only wonder what took so long. I wish Jessie jackson would put in an appearance as well. It makes all the right wing echo chamber voice their rascist attitudes.

He is such a lightening rod for the media/RW, perhaps he can deflect some of the nastiness away from Cindy?

On the other hand, while Al is one of the best "talkers" I've heard, I worry that he may totally deflect attention away from Cindy and the cause at hand... Guess we'll have to see and hope for the best. Sharpton has his pluses, but I am conflicted.

83. Probably Roger Stone. Stone helped raise funds for Sharpton's campaign
Roger Stone, a millionaire political consultant who began his career as a 19-year-old Watergate dirty trickster, virtually took over the Sharpton campaign in the last quarter of 2003, according to reports in the New York Times (January 25), Salon.com (”A GOP Trickster Rents Sharpton,” February 3) and New York’s Village Voice (“Sleeping with the GOP,” February 3). Stone and Sharpton were introduced two years ago by Donald Trump, the celebrity millionaire, said the Times. Stone brought in Charles Halloran to replace Sharpton campaign manager Frank Watkins, a longtime advisor to the Jesse Jacksons, Junior and Senior, who resigned in late September. (In the Village Voice article, Sharpton says Watkins was fired.) Halloran previously managed the New York gubernatorial campaign of far-right billionaire Tom Golisano, on the Independence Party line. He also managed a mostly white, conservative party’s attempt to unseat the first Black-led government of Bermuda.

Stone provides “ideas and direction, while Mr. Halloran…does the front-line work,” said the Times. “In the attacks on Dr. Dean, Mr. Stone helped set the tone and direction while Mr. Halloran did the research. Mr. Halloran came up with Dr. Dean's hiring record as governor, for example, aides to Mr. Sharpton said.”

Another rightwing purported Sharpton crony, Tucker Carlson of CNN’s “Crossfire,” said Stone and Sharpton are both motivated by a “disdain for white liberals.”

118. Really!
Tell you what: Get a copy of the transcript of the speech Al Sharpton gave at the Democratic Convention. Then compare that speech to the speeches given by the rest of the wimps, including Kerry. Then tell me who was in bed with the GOP. Sharpton had 3000 frustrated conventioneers on their feet because he was the only speaker who ripped into the bush and the rethuglican party. The best the rest of the dems could come up with was "reporting for duty" or some wimp crap like that. Did ya ever watch him tear apart any right wing rethuglican whacko on any talking head show? He kills them!
I sure wish some democrats were "in bed with the GOP" like Al Sharpton.

It was always my understanding (maybe I'm wrong) that he believed her story, and that's why he backed her. It wasn't some grand scheme between Sharpton and Brawley to lie, I don't believe.

Anyway, I really don't think Sharpton is a political opportunist. I think he is someone who cares deeply about the issues affecting the African-American community. He has been a true fighter for us. I have enormous respect for him.

4. I always liked that Rev. Sharpton...
Remember back in the primaries when he said something like "If it was wrong to GO in, it's wrong to STAY in"?

And compared the war scenario to waking up while your house is being burglarized - why call the cops? The burglars are already in: they need to stay and finish the job.

He livened up the primaries and I love to hear him speak. I'm so glad he's giving his support.

9. Sharpton is an unbelievable orator--with mucho baggage.
I'm certainly ambivalent about his attendance. I'm sure he'll pack his usual oratory wallop--but he's a walking minefield full of lightning rods, too.

Sharpton, Obama, and the Big Dawg had the most electrifying speeches at the DNC last year, IMHO...

My one piece of advice for the reverend--please keep your visit focused on Cindy and her issues--not about yours. PLEASE.

His issues are Cindy's issues. He was against this war from the beginning and is not a "johnny-come-lately" to the peace movement. We are beginning to practice the same kind of bigotry and hypocrisy that they do when we want to regulate who can and who cannot support Cindy.

Sharpton usually jumps on any bandwagon which may get him some tv exposure within 72 hours. I really, really wish this buffoon stays away, but no such hope - increasing media coverage makes it too tempting for him to resist the opportunity to have some tv face time.

Bill Clinton Defends Bush on Iraq
August 1, 2003
http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=9191
---
President George W. Bush, under siege for "misleading" the country into war against Iraq, received some help from an unusual source -- former President Bill Clinton.

"When I left office, there was a substantial amount of biological and chemical material unaccounted for ... it is incontestable that on the day I left office, there were unaccounted for stocks ..." said Clinton recently on "Larry King Live." Also, Clinton said he never found out whether a U.S.-British bombing campaign he ordered in 1998 ended Saddam's stockpiles of or his capability of producing chemical and biological weapons. "We might have gotten it all, we might have gotten half of it, we might have gotten none of it. But we didn't know," said Clinton
==========================

Why he left Iraq sit for Bush... Almost like he knew that Iraq would be for bush to deal with. I seriously think sometimes clinton and bush are both on the same team.

We all know he's going to use both "I-Words" when he gets there.

Does anyone think we should suggest to Cindy that she might want to kick him to the curb the way she did with the Socialists when they tried to join her?

Of course, it's her camp, and her call.

Personally, if it were me, I'd have a talk with Sharpton and plead with him to stay "on message" if he's gonna open his fat ugly mouth.

116. If I start going into detail, two things will happen
1) It'll start a flamewar. People familiar with Al Sharpton seem to have their opinions "set in stone."

Nobody will change my opinion, and I won't try to change anyone else's. Nothing good ever comes of arguing about Sharpton.

Which is directly related to the fact that Sharpton thrives on discord and spreading the sort of divisiveness that arises even from discussing Al Sharpton.

2) The thread will eventually be moved into "The Dungeon" if we start arguing about whether Sharpton's rantings are valid or not. I refuse to get into that debate, too.

The color of the man's skin has nothing to do with it.

I happen to be volunteering for an African American man running for mayor of my city, just as an example. And I hate playing the, "Here is proof I'm not Racist Card." I would hope I would be taken at my word.

Al Sharpton, in any color of the rainbow, is still a despicable human being and a waste of Oxygen.

I apologize if it appeared my feelings about him were tinged with a hint of racism.

In any case, for the above reasons, I'm not going to get sucked into a debate on the subject.

Either someone else can fill you in, or you can spend a few minutes googleing him.

34. Wow, it took this long to play the race card!
I expected it within five minutes of my posting.

Sharpton is just a rabble rousing political opportunist.

That is an EEOC approved career choice, no colors or creeds are prohibited from making that choice.

He and his ilk have a lot in common with George Wallace and David Duke, same tactics just opposite colors and ends of the political spectrum.

Now, please call me prejudiced some more, if it makes you feel better.

I'd have the same concerns if Jane Fonda showed up (or any of a number of high profile, but somewhat controversial figures). I respect both, but am worried that high profile people like this or those who are natural lightening rods for the "RW" will deflect attention away from Cindy's issues at hand.

Having said that, I will watch with interest....

At first I thought not good news, but, its a Prayer vigil, on a Sunday, and he's a Preacher.

If they were foolish enough to attack Sharpton for this, we'd immediately yell about them attacking religion, and religious freedoms.

It might be a smart move.

44. background on Sharpton and Stone
from:
http://www.blackcommentator.com/76/76_cover_sharpton.html

...the tale will resonate somewhat differently among African Americans. Sharpton comes across as a hapless stooge of the worst elements of the GOP.

Another rightwing purported Sharpton crony, Tucker Carlson of CNN’s “Crossfire,” said Stone and Sharpton are both motivated by a “disdain for white liberals.”

Joe Conason, of Salon.com, contends that Sharpton is a menace to the Democratic Party. “Stone certainly serves the Republican party by sustaining and promoting Sharpton,” wrote Conason. “The Democratic Party, whose institutions and candidates has consistently undermined for many years, is merely a convenient vehicle for his advancement.”

As the primary votes were being counted on Tuesday night, crack investigative reporter Wayne Barrett’s bomb exploded in the Village Voice, a devastating document-of-no-return for Al Sharpton. Barrett and his team describe what amounts to a lock, stock and barrel takeover of the Sharpton apparatus by Stone and the “half-dozen incongruous top aides who've worked for him in prior campaigns.” The Republican consultant also appears to have absorbed Sharpton’s Harlem-based National Action Network (NAN). “The combination of the unpaid or underpaid services of Stone, Halloran, Baynard, Archer, et al., together with the NAN subsidies, paint a picture of a Sharpton operation that is utterly dependent on his new ally Stone, whose own sponsors are as unclear as ever,” said the Voice.

Possibly most disturbing of all is Stone’s role in securing federal matching funds for the campaign. To qualify for matching dollars, candidates must first raise $100,000 – $5,000 from each of 20 states. Each individual contribution must be of no more than $250. The combined resources of the Sharpton campaign and NAN (“A shell,” according to an aide imported by Stone) either could not or would not assemble the necessary 400-plus contributors grouped by state, to meet the federal threshold. Stone stepped in, filling the gaps with small checks from relatives, lobbyist friends and assorted denizens of the Right.

Did Sharpton really need a Republican organization to do that? Was a household name incapable of finding 20 people in 20 states with $250? Or does he instinctively opt for the quick fix or favor?

Stone has “loaned” Sharpton at least $270,000, and the candidate has made frequent use of Stone’s credit card, according to the Voice story. NAN funds have been hopelessly commingled with campaign monies – a potential legal disaster.

thing for Sharpton to go to Crawford. It is not like there are ANY Dems showing up or supporting except for some members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Hey Hillary, Kerry, Kennedy, Harkin, Boxer, Obama, Kucinich, anyone? Will you support ending this war or you all using the same gameplan as Bush? They don't have to go to Crawford to support Cindy Sheehan but would they at least oppose Bush's Iraq policy?

Watch... Bush is going to "cut and run" and laugh all the way to the bank.

119. More info on Reichwing whackjob (and Sharpton backer) Roger Stone:
Roger J. Stone, Jr. is a long-time Republican dirty-tricks operative who led the mob that shut down the Miami-Dade County recount and helped make George W. Bush president in 2000. He was also a campaign strategist during the presidential campaigns of Presidents Nixon, Reagan and George Herbert Walker Bush. He is the chairman of the Fort Hill Group, a Washington, D.C.-based public affairs firm.

Stone was also a strategist for the 1981 and 1985 campaigns for governor of New Jersey by Thomas H. Kean, who was later appointed by President Bush to chair the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (also known as the 9-11 Commission). (http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/8479060.htm)

During the 2004 presidential primary, Stone served as a behind-the-scenes consultant to black firebrand Al Sharpton's campaign to win the Democratic Party nomination, prompting speculation that Sharpton's campaign was actually a stealth operation to weaken the party's chances of winning in the general election. Writing in the Village Voice, Wayne Barrett noted that Stone was "financing, staffing, and orchestrating the presidential campaign of Reverend Al Sharpton. ... Sharpton has a little-noticed history of Republican machinations inconsistent with his fiery rhetoric. ... ny Sharpton-connected outrage against the party could either lower black turnout in several key close states, or move votes to Bush." (http://www.villagevoice.com/issues/0405/barrett.php)

The New York Times has also reported on the strange-bedfellows relationship between Stone and Sharpton, noting that Stone was behind several of Sharpton's most visible campaign tactics, including scrutiny of primary candidate Howard Dean's record of minority appointees when he was governor of Vermont. (http://www.mail-archive.com/pen-l@galaxy.csuchico.edu/msg85212.html)

In September 2004, rumors circulated that Stone was the original source of apparently forged documents related to the National Guard service of U.S. President George W. Bush. Stone denied the charge. "I have nothing whatsoever to do with this," he said. "I'm a firm believer in political hardball, but I draw the line at forged documents." may be no more than concern that Cindy's message might get deflected from the arrival of very high profile figures. Just as many have expressed concern that some might come to press unrelated causes.

Given that this latter concern hasn't seemingly come to pass, perhaps we have nothing to worry about. Rev. Al will surely liven things up, that's for sure. He may be just the one to put some of these asshole pundits and tv interviewers in their place, with respect to their snarky attitudes towards Cindy.

Personally I believe if the Bill or Hillary Clinton, Maria Shriver, John Mccain,Rush Limbaugh,Joe Lieberman,Jerry Falwell,Pat Robertson or even Laura and Barbra Bush wanted to join Cindy Sheehan they would be welcomed with open arms and praised on this forum, their past or the people they associate with would never be brought up. Its always bothered me that every-time I see an image of the camp I've never see any african americans (except for the SS agent) or other minorities, for the most part it has been a gathering of mostly white people, I believe Mr. Sharptons presence will bring people who might feel alienated but support her in silence to openly join Cindy in her protest but judging by alot of posts in this thread I don't think some people want that to happen.

If Cindy personally turns Mr. Sharpton away she will lose all my support I don't have to support her to be against this war and Bush.

50. Why is it always about Racism?
I know this message will also get me labeled a "Slight Racist"... but honestly, you all dont know if I am black, white, or orange!

When someone does not like the idea of the open porous borders and the known illegal immigration, they are immediately labeled Racist.

If someone does not think Al Sharpton would be good for this cause... again, Racist!

Arent we all just members of the human race? If so... then the only racists we face are those who are trying to squash it! Namely the Bush Corporation!

Al Sharpton does deliver a very strong message and he does have a huge following of people who have similar beliefs as his. THAT IS GOOD for this cause!

Al Sharpton can also spin up just as much rhetoric as anyone on the left, right or middle!

I want him here for his strong message and how he delivers it! I want him here for the large numbers of eyes and ears he can bring to the cause...

I would rather he not turn this into a personal agenda on any level.

I am just so tired of hearing the Racist word thrown at everyone who disagrees with anything that involves leaders or people who are not white!

66. A.N.S.W.E.R- Act Now to Stop War and End Racism
Check them out, InternationalANSWER.org has organized many major anti war demos in L.A. and across the globe.

The Sept. 25th demo is being organized by ANSWER.

The wars and occupations in Iraq, Afghanistan are racists.
These wars parallel the U.S. War and occupation of the Philippine (1898)

R. Kipling wrote his famous "Take up the White Man's Burden" in response to the U.S. take over of the Philippine. Kilpling wanted the U.S. to colonize the islands.

Below is the first paragraph of "The White Man's Burden". The parallels to Iraq are stunning.

"Take up the White Man's burden--
Send forth the best ye breed--
Go bind your sons to exile
To serve your captives' need;
To wait in heavy harness,
On fluttered folk and wild--
Your new-caught, sullen peoples,
Half-devil and half-child."

....

The rest of the poem also mirrors Iraq

Take up the White Man's burden--
In patience to abide,
To veil the threat of terror
And check the show of pride;
By open speech and simple,
An hundred times made plain
To seek another's profit,
And work another's gain.

Take up the White Man's burden--
The savage wars of peace--
Fill full the mouth of Famine
And bid the sickness cease;
And when your goal is nearest
The end for others sought,
Watch sloth and heathen Folly
Bring all your hopes to nought.

Take up the White Man's burden--
No tawdry rule of kings,
But toil of serf and sweeper--
The tale of common things.
The ports ye shall not enter,
The roads ye shall not tread,
Go mark them with your living,
And mark them with your dead.

Take up the White Man's burden--
Ye dare not stoop to less--
Nor call too loud on Freedom
To cloke your weariness;
By all ye cry or whisper,
By all ye leave or do,
The silent, sullen peoples
Shall weigh your gods and you.

Take up the White Man's burden--
Have done with childish days--
The lightly proferred laurel,
The easy, ungrudged praise.
Comes now, to search your manhood
Through all the thankless years
Cold, edged with dear-bought wisdom,
The judgment of your peers!

He will eviscerate bush and everyone else in this frickin' charade. I have my problems with Sharpton and his "opportunistic" ways, and I have big problems with the Stone association and how he sandbagged Howard Dean. All that aside, though, I see this as a good thing.

We need to stand up for whoever stands up for us and stop allowing others to bully us into disavowing people who are potentially helpful. There were those who went on and on about Joan Baez in the same manner. She hasn't changed a damn thing about the dynamics. I agree with Catwoman, get a grip.

65. This is the problem - Bush Covert Operative Takes Over Al Sharpton's Campa
Sleeping With the GOP
A Bush Covert Operative Takes Over Al Sharpton's Campaign

February 5th, 2004

Roger Stone, the longtime Republican dirty-tricks operative who led the mob that shut down the Miami-Dade County recount and helped make George W. Bush president in 2000, is financing, staffing, and orchestrating the presidential campaign of Reverend Al Sharpton.

Though Stone and Sharpton have tried to reduce their alliance to a curiosity, suggesting that all they do is talk occasionally, a Voice investigation has documented an extraordinary array of connections. Stone played a pivotal role in putting together Sharpton's pending application for federal matching funds, getting dollars in critical states from family members and political allies at odds with everything Sharpton represents. He's also helped stack the campaign with a half-dozen incongruous top aides who've worked for him in prior campaigns. He's even boasted about engineering six-figure loans to Sharpton's National Action Network (NAN) and allowing Sharpton to use his credit card to cover thousands in NAN costs—neither of which he could legally do for the campaign. In a wide-ranging Voice interview Sunday, Stone confirmed his matching-fund and staffing roles, but refused to comment on the NAN subsidies.

<snip>

Recruited in 2000 by his friend James Baker, the former secretary of state, to spearhead the GOP street forces in Miami, Stone is apparently confident that he can use the Democrat-bashing preacher to damage the party's eventual nominee, just as Sharpton himself bragged he did in the New York mayoral campaign of 2001. In his 2002 book, Al on America, Sharpton wrote that he felt the city's Democratic Party "had to be taught a lesson" in 2001—insisting that Mark Green, who defeated the Sharpton-backed Fernando Ferrer in a bitter runoff, had disrespected him and minorities. Adding that the party "still has to be taught one nationally," he warned: "A lot of 2004 will be about what happened in New York in 2001. It's about dignity." In 2001, Sharpton engaged in a behind-the-scenes dialogue with campaign aides to Republican Mike Bloomberg while publicly disparaging Green.

114. Sharpton played them for funds and logistical support - he may have
had his job to do but he needed a way to get some air time and make his voice heard. The dems were not helping him out. A starving man does not turn down day old food.

I think it takes a lot of guts for the guy to go to Texas. Lets hope he can help.

99. Heck, yeah. The more the merrier.
So he's considered opportunistic. Big deal. Name me a politician who ISN'T.

The more eyes focused on Crawdad, the better. Skeer boosh so bad he'll have to take ANOTHER vacation to get away from his vacation (after mommy changes his Depends again). Cindy's got her message, and I don't think she'll let Rev. Al or anyone else co-opt it.

If the big, bad republicans and the republican-lites don't like it... Heh, heh, heh... So much the better!

And if you want someone around who can rhetorically pound Li'l Boots into the ground with half his brain tied behind his back...

77. Fine with me if it is for support. This is Cindy Sheehan's deal...
and everyone knows it. She knows what she is doing. I doubt he will come to take anything from Cindy Sheehan.

Where are the other Dems? That is the real question.

The Congressional Black Caucus and minorites in the party have been the only Dems that has been doing anything for the party as far back as I can remember. So before people try to beat up on him remember how people felt when he gave that speech at the DNC convention.

I would like to hear him take some jabs like he did at the DNC convention last year. I think he has come a far way since the Tawana Brawley days. You can't find any Dems these days that are bold enough to speak their mind and tell it how it is.

We need people to start speaking up and taking it to these crooks, liars, and traitors before they burn our country to the ground.

said some horrid things back a decade ago. He is also great at communicating and has matured ore the years. And he is a leader. The GOP wants him to jump to their side bad.

I hope he does visit with Cindy.

Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 08:54 PM by brentspeak
From Wikipedia:

"In his early years, Sharpton referred to gays as "faggots," and throughout his political career has called whites "crackers" and Jews "diamond merchants," "white interlopers," and "bloodsucking Jews." Sharpton's criticism of black Marxists extended to them carrying "that German cracker’s book under their arms."

His vociferous black nationalism has lead him to be closely, and at times directly, involved in racist attacks on non-blacks. After calling a Jewish shopkeeper a "white interloper," he looked on while an associate of his suggested the Jew's shop should be burned down. When a black member of the crowd did so, killing several including himself, Sharpton initially denied having been present. When confronted with a video tape showing his presence, he said: "What's wrong with denouncing white interlopers?" Other such controversies center on purported offenses by Jews against black Americans, although in one case he did attack Korean shopkeepers."

He's being courted to become a republican is sugested. I doubt he will do it, seriously doubt it. Also, there's an old saying, "keep your friends close and your enemies even closer" Maybe Sharpton and Team Dem got some choice intel on Stone's crew. As long as Stone's hand isn't sticking into Sharptons back I'd have to say it's probably nothing to worry about.

105. No, that is a fair opinon. Maybe one of the reasons the movement
Cindy Sheehan has started is appealing is because there are regular people involved and running it, relatively speaking. I know there are a lot of pros there helping, but not people that may cast a different shadow on it.

I don't care either way if he goes or not, it is about Cindy Sheehan and her cause not any other crap that people are trying to muddle it to be. He may, on the other hand take some jabs at Bush which may be a little funny. He was good at the DNC convention last year.

107. He looked like a man who was deeply moved at the DSM hearing.
It was authentic. He was sickened. IMO, how he felt that day could not be faked. It doesn't surprise me that he is throwing his support behind Cindy. I believe this is much more to him than a political opportunity. Doesn't anyone here believe he has the right to know what the "NOBLE CAUSE IS", as well? IMO, we all have that right and should demand an answer.

Peace.

What other Democrats are doing that? Maxine Waters. Sheila Jackson Lee.

Again, when it mattered it was African American leaders in our party who stood up to be counted.

I welcome them with open arms.

109. This is a plus!! Sharpton can be a little over the top sometimes but
he is genuine and can help in Crawford. He does need to rein it in a bit though. If he can do that I think he will add an interesting element to the mix. (I am not sure how long he can hold out without AC though.)

On the one hand, you have a state where they dragged a black man to death behind a truck a few years ago, and then you have Sharpton willing to ride down there and in my mind take a substantial risk. He does not have to do this.

Keep in mind that he will very likely show up in someones ??? 06 NY State senate campaign, and probably surface again in 08. He is doing what other political figures cannot but he is providing some linkage.

Call it opportunism and mercenary or what you will. Unless he starts spouting way off topic I do not see how it can hurt. He does have excellent speaking skills and can debate the pants off anyone the pro bush camp has fielded.

112. Regardless of what one thinks about Sharpton, that Bogeyman speech
he gave during one of the earliest of protests is a classic. It was done with great class yet brought home a point about Bush* that the American people needed to hear: Bush* and Cheney run this country through fear. It was fear that convinced the majority of Americans at the onset of this illegal, immoral war to support Bush*s preemptive attack on Iraq. On that particular occasion, Bush* made Saddam our Bogeyman to fear. True, Saddam was a cruel leader, but the immediate threat he presented was to the Iraqi people, not to us.

It is extremely important for those who still support Bush* and still support this war to be introduced to the concept that that tool of using fear as a motivator is exactly what suckered many naive Americans into "going along." There is no better person to make that point than Al Sharpton.

Another Sharpton performance. He can't stand it if he isn't the Grand Marshall of every parade.

Now Cindy's message will be muddied and distorted by Sharpton's compulsive need to bathe in the floodlights.

The other two probably know better, they understand this is between the chimp and Cindy, and they don't want to interrupt the chimp when he is making the biggest mistake in a mistake-ridden pretzelduncy. Sharpton has more leeway in these matters.
