US troops question presence in Iraq.
A sizeable portion of US forces serving in Iraq describe troop morale as low, and say they have no intention of re-enlisting, damaging the campaign by the US government to brighten up the image of the postwar occupation.

The survey of 1,935 troops, published in a series of special reports on Iraq in the Stars and Stripes newspaper, also found that a significant number of troops were confused about the purpose of their presence, and had lost faith in their mission.

Coinciding with the report, the army yesterday admitted that at least 13 US troops had committed suicide in Iraq, representing more than 10% of American non-combat deaths there, and said the army had sent a suicide-prevention expert to Iraq.

2. "Low troop morale"
this is sooo sad, they are simply captive pawns of
the neo conservatives in the WH. These young people
enlisted to serve and protect their country, instead
they have been manipulated into occupying a non
threatening country where they are unwanted and being
stalked.

I wish we the people could bring them home where they
belong.

9. "As all eyes turn to Rumsfeld"

the attention needs to be directed at Rums-filled. This man has taken lots of credit for the war in Iraq. He was the principal planner. He elbowed out many other people who could have done a better job, and had more experience than him.

I have read absolutely horrible things about the conditions the troops are living in. Crappy, preservative-filled MRE's. Not enough medical care. They have to pay for certain things out of their own pocket. They don't get enough water to drink during the day. AND their combat pay is $255 dollars per month.

Who in the hell would volunteer for this? Who would re-enlist? And naturally, these older but wiser troops promise they will not.

15. Symbolman, I owe you a debt of gratitude.
Where and when would you like to run this? How much does this much time in 60 Minutes cost? How about the History Channel?

Your graphics have always been top tier productions. This latest example is absolutely stunning. Were it not for dire financial straits, I would gladly donate to the cause. But then, give me five days and I'll see what I can do.
