Senator: Nat'l Guard in more surveillance (California)
Edited on Fri Aug-26-05 11:47 AM by barbaraann

By DON THOMPSON, Associated Press Writer Fri Aug 26, 1:02 AM ET

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The California National Guard, already under investigation for allegedly spying on a Mother's Day peace rally, engaged in other surveillance activities involving citizens, a state senator said Thursday, citing a confidential Army report.

Democratic Sen. Joe Dunn accused the Guard's acting adjutant general of deliberately mischaracterizing the report when the general claimed last week that it cleared a Guard intelligence unit that was accused of spying on U.S. citizens.

Dunn, who reviewed the report last week, said it refers to additional protests and demonstrations, and "labeled as questionable" Guard involvement surrounding them.

Dunn is leading an investigation into whether the nation's largest Guard force resorted to the same type of civilian monitoring that characterized Vietnam War-era protests. During the 1960s and 1970s, the military collected information on more than 100,000 Americans.

Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'.
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drummin'.
Four dead in Ohio.

Gotta get down to it.
Soldiers are gunning us down.
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her and
Found her dead on the ground?
How can you run when you know?...

17. I was referencing KENT STATE!!!
And let us not forget Chicago--that was no walk in the park, either.

If this shit keeps up, there will be people in the streets. Only it will not be just "long haired hippie freaky people" it will be Grandma and Grampa, who cut their teeth on the streets in the 60's and 70's, along with their kids and grandkids.

SEP in DC will give us an idea of how far this thing will go. I sense a massive amount of disgruntlement, disgust, anger, and dismay. Will it boil over, that's the question?

15. Joe Dunn is great.
I didn't run across his work until after I moved out of the state (I lived in NoCal, while he is in SoCal) - but in the aftermath of the Cali (manufactured) "energy crisis" - his work in unraveling the Enron aspect was phenomenal. Were I still in California, I would be all over an upstart effort to pit Dunn against Fienstien - or, because that might be next to impossible - a Dunn run for Governor.

18. One would expect no less in a cowed and slavish nation like Imperial
Amerika.

I expect the Rise of Informants, neighborhood Spies is rising just as dramatically, as are most other characteristics associated with Third-World nations like Imperial Amerika.

20. We need to step it up.
when you see "straights" videotaping demonstrations flip them off with both hands! Run straight at them if they're not on a building roof. Let them know that WE SEE THEM. Take pictures of them with telephoto lenses. Let them know that we aren't scared that they're recording us exercising our 1st Amendement right to political speech.
