Alert Posted After Theft Of Jet Fuel Truck...

Homeland Security offices across the southeast have been put on alert after a truck filled with jet fuel was stolen Friday morning from a Kentucky airport.


Officials with the Tennessee Office of Homeland Security said the truck was stolen around 6:30 Friday morning from the Muhlenberg County, Kentucky airport in Greenville.

Officials said the truck, which was filled with approximately 2,000 gallons of jet fuel, was driven through a fence that surrounds the airport property.

"We don't know whether they just wanted the vehicle or they had somehting else in mind. Wnything more than that right now wuld be just speculation," said Scott Duke of the Tennessee Homeland Security office.

More likely it was some idiots who thought this was aviation fuel which you could mix with gasoline and burn in a gasoline powered SUV with no problem.

Some independent truckers would absolutely love to have 2000 gal of diesel given to them about now. JP 4 is nothing more than #1 diesel fuel or better known as Stove oil. The miles per gallon is determined by how heavy a load is being hauled so your figure of six miles a gallon is suspect.

I have talked the boss into starting to use 10% ethanol, but not until the prices are the same. Won't be long now, with the way diesel is going up.

Not that many people are at work yet, either at the airport or the sheriff's department. And if it's like a lot of Kentucky, the roads are lined by trees that are in full foliage at this time of year. You could turn down a narrow side road and disappear from view all too quickly. Or get to an interstate and not attract much attention with all the other truck traffic coming and going.

47. Jet Fuel is a distallate that is very similar to kerosene and diesel....

It's more highly refined and pure then ordinary diesel grade #1, kerosene or heating fuel oil grade #1.

Other then that, all three of these fuels will burn quite well in a most diesel motors.

If you get something too thick, like engine oil or transmission fluid, you can cut it with diesel or with RUG (regular unleaded gas). You can also use other thinners. Hell yes, you can run a diesel just fine on jet fuel.

I forgot to include this in the preceding post, but FWIW, the old Saturn 5 booster actually burned kerosene(!). Because kerosene has one of the highest energy densities among liquid fuels, a lesser volume of fuel was needed to achieve orbit. Basically Diesel #2, Home Heating oil, Jet Fuel and Kerosene #2 are interchangeable. Furthermore Kerosene #1 Diesel #1 an be used in the same engines except you will see a drop in mileage (Do to #1 being "lighter" in energy to #2, but can be used at temperatures below Freezing when #2 starts cloud up and clog up the Fuel Injectors. This NOT a problem with Gas Turbine Engine nor is it a problem with Oil Furnaces (Which generally are in homes where the temperature is over Freezing).

Now some of the fuel is treated for better performance but not enough NOT to be use for one of the other uses. One of the best example of this is Coleman Fuel and Gasoline. Coleman Fuel is geared for camping stores and never contained lead. Gasoline till the 1970s had lead in the Gasoline (Except for wells of out Southern California which did not need lead to increase their octane level). Can Coleman fuel be used in a gasoline engine? Yes, can todays lead free gasoline be used in Coleman stoves, yes, through the stoves will burn out sooner than if you stayed with Coleman Fuel (Yes last only 20 years increase of 30).

The same with Jet Fuel, home heating oil, Diesel and Kerosene, all can be used in the Same Engines (Please note Gasoline/Coleman fuel is NOT usable in diesel engines or oil fired furnaces (Through given the nature of Gas turbines can be burned in Gas Turbines i.e. Jet Engines).

A big hulking Taxi Cab of a car. The think was scary fast. They were built with bad brakes, bad handling and massive understeer these cars killed most of their drivers. A car that would go 150 MPH with little custom work for less than $3,100.

I checked the diesel prices the other day. There's LOTS of motive for stealing 2000 gallons of fuel.

Anyone with a CDL could steal the fuel--it's just a truck.
