LAPD Accused of Unprovoked Attack at Vigil
LAPD Accused of Unprovoked Attack at Vigil

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa promised an investigation Friday into claims that a Nation of Islam minister was beaten by Los Angeles police during a vigil for a shooting victim.

Supporters of Tony Muhammad, western regional director of the Nation of Islam, are calling for tougher scrutiny of a police department that has repeatedly faced allegations of using excessive force.

L.A.'s been through several police reforms and the problem of excessive force is still there.

12. umm the claim could be false...but dont let that stop you from
piling on. not that innocent til proven guilty is a concept some DUers
cannot grasp. and the nation of islam is an unimpeachable source, correct?

Maybe you could wait and see the details as they reach a conclusion and hold your fire until it is proven to be necessary.

PS - the LAPD could be at fault here, but how bout eliminating the knee jerk automatic reaction?

13. How absurd to
believe that a police department with a well known history of police brutality should be given the benefit of the doubt. The LAPD has been brutal towards African Americans for decades. They have framed blacks and sent them to jail for crimes they never committed. They have also beaten and murdered not only blacks but latinos as well. With that kind of history I don't think it's a knee jerk reaction to believe the police might be guilty in this case. For years, many LA policemen were people who moved to California from the south and brought their racial prejudices with them.
