Demonstrations by Al Sadr Supporters in Baghdad, Basra, Karbala and Kufa Demanding for Employment and Services
The situation in Karbala has become tense after the murder of one of Muqtada Al Sadr's supporters and the injury of our in a clash with the Iraqi police in Al Qurashi region of the city that includes the shrine of Imam Al Hussein and his brother Al Abbas, in the center of Iraq. Meanwhile, anonymous persons have burned the headquarters of the supreme council of the Islamic revolution in Al Kefl city.
On the other hand, Abdel Aziz Al Hakim, president of the supreme council for Islamic revolution in Iraq, has condemned the burning of the offices of Badr militias and Shaheed Al Mihrab Organization in a number of Iraqi cities.
Within the same context, Al Zaman correspondent in Najaf said that the streets of the city have witnessed noticeable decrease of the movement of citizens. On the other hand, police and army patrols were heavily seen on the main streets, amidst the hovering of American helicopters. He added that the city entrances were completely closed; only funerals were allowed in. The doors of Al Haydari shrine were also closed.
Lieutenant Salman Shoukri of the city police said, "Gunmen have set fire in one of the offices of the supreme council in Al Kefl and its employees have fled."
Meanwhile, there is still tension in Najaf based on the burning of one of Al Sadr's offices in the city on Wednesday. This was followed by the eruption of clashes between Al Sadr supporters, on the one hand, and Badr militias, under the supreme council headed by Abdel Aziz Al Hakim, and the police, on the other hand. While thousands of Muqtada Al Sadr's supporters have demonstrated in Baghdad, Kufa, Basra, and Karbala protesting against the lack of services and demanding Ibrahim Al Ja'fari's government to improve the standard of living and start the reconstruction, there were continuous attacks in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities. The attacks have resulted in the explosion of an oil pipe in Kirkuk that led to suspending exportation through Turkey's Jihan Harbor.
