Arab League chief blasts Iraq charter

CAIRO, Egypt (UPI) -- Arab League Secretary-General Amr Mousa blasted as "recipe for chaos" the Iraqi draft constitution approved by parliament despite Arab Sunnis` objection.

Mousa told an interview with the BBC Monday that the Arab League shares the concerns and fears of Iraq`s Sunni Arabs regarding the federation system endorsed in the new constitution.

He said it is most alarming to endorse a constitution over which there is no national consensus.

"The Arab League also shares the concerns of the Sunnis about not defining Iraq`s identity in the new constitution although it is an Arab country, and this has been done for the sake of a non-Arab minority like the Kurds," Mousa said.
