Canada's ambassador to United States warns trade rules could be unravelling

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. (CP) - Frank McKenna, Canada's ambassador to the United States, says the rules that govern the largest commercial relationship in the world could be unravelling as a result of a long-standing dispute over softwood lumber.

McKenna, speaking to a meeting of eastern premiers and New England governors, says the North American Free Trade Agreement has served both Canada and the U.S. well, but there is a sense that the rules aren't being respected.

The former New Brunswick premier says he and other architects of the original free trade agreement with the U.S. would have been very reluctant to sign on if they thought those rules would be ignored.

Don't tell the traders. Especially the NYSE. It might ruin their day.

1. The cartel that pushed for those rules were not bargaining
in good faith. They were planning to help themselves to the best that the treaty could offer, and ignore any responsibility for any of the duties that it imposed. Now that the oligarchs are operating out in the open, without the fig leaf of legality necessary anymore, it should be easy to highlight the most egregious violations.

Doing anything about it will require "regime change"... and I'm not just talking about kicking out the Republican leadership here.

3. My silly comment for the day
is that this reminds me of what I've been saying for a little while now, and that is...get the heck out of the US when you start hearing rumors of NOT being able to leave. In all this stuff the admin is doing, cut bait and run when it looks like the exit doors are closing.

In my tin-foil hat conspiracy theory mind, this could lead to problems moving to Canada. Problems leaving legally.

It might be a threat to national security to let Americans move away.

Of course, that would only be possible for an extremely corrupt government, one hell-bent on creating a police state and subjugating it's peoples freedom. Like...China and Russia, where they tell people where they can live. One that would start a war for no reason, and bring a huge superpower down. Hmmm I'm really not sure we're there yet, but, I think I can see it from here.

5. Oh...oh damn...
THAT was something I didn't know.

I worried that either the US could block us from leaving, or other nations, especially those we could drive into, would deny us entry. But I didn't think it had already begun.

Anyone else find themselves sometimes thinking things are bad, but no matter how bad, finding out they're even WORSE than you thought? Seems like not matter how pessimistic I've been, it's always worse.

Like the torture in those prisons. So much worse than I thought it could possibly be. Speaking of that...what I can't figure out most is how we even heard about it. In my conspiracy-theory mind, it was to discredit the military. When they later, as they're starting to do now, rejecting what's being asked of them. Take away moral support of the military, when they're NO LONGER your neocon military; use them and then drag them into the ground so they can't do anything about it.
