Lieberman said he expected a hostile reaction
Democratic presidential hopeful Joseph Lieberman has been booed by hecklers at an Arab American forum in Detroit.
Senator Lieberman, who is an Orthodox Jew, was interrupted after he refused to condemn Israel's construction of a security fence through the West Bank.

He was one of several Democrats who addressed the Detroit forum, campaigning for the Arab vote in the 2004 presidential election.

Hostile audience

Speaking at the Arab American Institute's national leadership conference, Mr Lieberman said Israel had a right to protect itself and urged the Palestinians to "dismantle the terrorist infrastructure".

1. Obviously there is a huge Arab Vote in Michigan

2. I think there are more voteing Arabs in the US

than voteing Jews. I'm not sure however...but I remember reading it on Democracy NOW!

3. A lot of Arabs in the US are Xns .

People mistakenly think they are all muslim. Unfortunately, Arabs have traditionally voted Repub. I think because there is no real foreign policy difference regarding Israel/Palestine between Dems and Repubs.

I'm telling everyone our blind support of Israel hurts the democratic party. We wil be much better off in the future if we support justice and peace in all countries, including Israel. We can't continue to blindly support Isreal.

the only repuke running in the Democratic primaries (except of course, opportunist Clark). Dean, however, seems to have Arab Americans on his side.

5. I have a Muslim friend from India They voted for Bush in 2000

they won't be voting for him in 2004

Their Biggest fear about Bush is the Patriot Act and losing their rights. They are terrified of this. They never thought Bush would Betray them like this. I told them he wasn't to be trusted but believe it or not their Mosque told them to vote Bush. I wonder what the Mosques all over America are telling their followers :bounce:
