US to participate in joint war game in Egypt

CAIRO, Aug. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- The United States will send military forces to participate in joint military exercises in Egypt in September, a Cairo-based military source said Monday.

The mission, called "Bright Star", would be launched in early September in the Egyptian northeastern region of El-Alamein, a key WWII battlefield in north Africa.

Naval, air and army forces from 13 countries are due to take part in the war game which will last for about one month.

Egypt used to hold "Bright Star" military exercises once every two years, but the war game in 2003 was canceled after the United States invaded Iraq.
