[UK] Call for anti-terror law ban on US evangelist (Pat Robertson)
http://news.scotsman.com/politics.cfm?id=1862182005

A GOVERNMENT minister has fuelled the row over Britain's proposed new anti-terror laws by calling for Pat Robertson, the controversial American evangelist, to be banned from the UK. Nigel Griffiths, the deputy leader of the House of Commons, said Mr Robertson should be barred from Britain for inciting "hate and murder".

Mr Robertson has been at the centre of a storm in the United States after he called on Washington to assassinate Hugo Chavez, the left-wing president of Venezuela.

...

But the Prime Minister did not expect the laws to be used to catch Christian preachers, however radical, particularly those with influential friends in the US Republican Party, such as Mr Robertson.

4. From Greg Palast...
http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=49&row=0

"If you don't know about the Invisible Cord, then you have not read New World Order by Dr Marion 'Pat' Robertson. This is the same Pat Robertson that the Bank of Scotland recently named chairman of its new American consumer-bank holding company. Interestingly, the Scottish bank's biography of Robertson failed to mention New World Order, the 1991 bestseller that the Wall Street Journal, in a mean-spirited review, described as written by 'a paranoid pinhead with a deep distrust of democracy'.

There is so much the Bank of Scotland forgot to include in its profile of Robertson that it is left to this newspaper to describe this man of wealth and taste. The bank, for example, failed to note that he is best known to Americans as leader of the 1.2 million-strong ultra-right political front, Christian Coalition"

I'm no fan this proposed terror law, but Pat fits the bill
for a dangerous, hate-mongering cleric as well as any
Muslim extremist.

I really shouldn't cheer this but...

16. They should call for prosecution of Fox News, which is even WORSE:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2039206
Thread title: FOX VIDEO- Hannity eggs on guest who wants multiple world leaders murdered

Read through the thread and you will see that this is illegal as well as dangerous - how big a step is it for some rightwing nutjob to pick up his all-too-handy gun (thanks, NRA) and assassinate antiwar protesters or anyone else he thins is a "danger to the country"? Also this outrageous incident is only part of a long-term Fox policy.

We MUST MUST MUST spread the word, complain to the FCC and corporate sponsors, encourage prosecution, and HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE. Fox News is clearly and deliberately encouraging violent suppression of dissent as well as murder of world leaders disliked by the Bush Administration.

24. As the truth
comes out and surrounds these bastards in the media (and it will) what crimes have they committed and who should we arrest first? As far as lying to the public most importantly to me, the election fraud silence, they know the truth is out there, and its only a matter of time before more people know about it, than they are able to BULLSHIT. Who's first

Magistrate and read the Bible. If he doesn't burst into flames. Then he can be forgiven of any crime. But actually I think we should put him on trial here first. Just to make sure he's not a Warlock. Recently he seems to be possessed of a Weir Logia (Evil Logic). Oh, what the hell! Let's just do the Exorcism. It'll be fun. We can watch Pat spit pea soup as head spins. Then he'll start babbling, Monica sucks c**k in the Oval Office! Moon Goddess worshiping pedophiles! Take out Chavez! Bush is Satan! All bow before Bush and his evil minions Al Qaida!

Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 06:43 PM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
had been on one of our church parades as an "other rank" , he'd have had an attack of the vapours. He'd have needed more than a waft of the smelling salts to bring him round.

The old sergeant-major, (in terms of political correctness in religious matters, an utter neanderthal), would bawl out, "C of E fall in on the left; Roman Candles, on the right. Queer b*ast*rds go and stand over there!"

I could never work out whether the old geezer (all of forty, for sure) represented the panoply of Church AND State, or separation of Church and State.

Ban US terrorist Pat says Brit leader
by: bludmoney (52/M/Valencia, CA) 08/31/05 10:08 am
Msg: 3513 of 3538

The parliament member calling for the ban is deputy leader of the House of Commons, who seems to be taking Pat Robertson's call for the assassination of elected president of Venezuela Hugo Chavez, more seriously than our own government (who privately agrees with Pat and has already backed a coup and recall against Chavez).

We should not single out any religion for persecution, but neither should we give someone a pass when the advocate assassination and terrorism just because they are a Muslim cleric in London, a settler rabbi in the West Bank, or a guy who spends most of his time pretending to heal people through TV.

The right often accuses the left of moral relativism, but their response to a death threat from Pat is at most a guffaw and "He wasn't supposed to say that OUT LOUD."

Key quote

"My view is that is frankly not the sort of person we would welcome into Britain. The new law would catch him as someone preaching hate and murder" - Nigel Griffiths MP
