Calif.'s Democratic attorney general admits he voted for (Arnold)

Attorney General Bill Lockyer, often mentioned as a possible Democratic candidate for California governor in 2006, said Saturday he voted for Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger in this month's recall election.

"It was the first time I ever voted for a Republican in my life," Lockyer said during a speech at the Institute for Governmental Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. "What Arnold Schwarzenegger represented for me was hope, optimism and change, and I want that."

... Asked why he didn't vote for his fellow Democrat, Lockyer said, "You know the people in your profession really well. You know who works hard and who doesn't. Cops know that about cops. Doctors know that about doctors. I know that about politicians."

Mr. Davis was joined at the rally here by a large number of Democratic officials, including State Attorney General Bill Lockyer.
Speaking with reporters, Mr. Lockyer called upon Mr. Schwarzenegger to voluntarily submit to an investigation of the sexual
misconduct accusations, particularly those published in the past few days in The Los Angeles Times. The newspaper wrote
about 15 women who had claimed that Mr. Schwarzenegger groped them or sexually humiliated them.

Mr. Lockyer said it would be difficult to conduct an investigation without the actor's cooperation because none of the accusers
had filed charges and the statute of limitations would apply.

"This time of year, sometimes everything goes through the lens of what's political," Mr. Lockyer said, "and those that want to
believe their candidate is virtuous tend to just disbelieve any charges, but there are too many of them. And it just seems to me
somebody ought to do an adequate investigation."

Schwarzenegger said of the newspaper. ``I mean, part of the
puke campaign that Davis launched,'' he added, alluding to criticism
of Davis by Attorney General Bill Lockyer. Lockyer, a Democrat, said
in August that voters might abandon Davis if he resorted to
negative campaigning and ``puke politics.''

Lockyer came to Davis' defense Saturday, saying, ``There are no
so-called `puke politics' involved here.''

So there is Lockyer expressing concern over these serious allegations indicating that there were "too many" to ignore and categorically denying the allegations were "puke politics." Even so he now says he voted for him because the Gropenfuhrer represented "hope change and reform, opportunity?!" What hope change and opportunity was that Bill, hope for change in the energy market for renewed corporate pillage and increased opportunity for women's degradation and subjugation?

It seems abundantly clear that Lockyer is a man who plays both ends against the middle and tries to catch the politically expedient tide and surf it. In the Times article it was noted that he had described himself as a "friend of Arnolds." Thus it seems Lockyer was hedging his bets.

Now that the Gropenfuhrer has won, he is evidently trying to position himself as an Arnold supporter thinking, quite erroneously, that he will score some political points. The ultimate two faced hypocrisy. Hope he gets what he can now from his friend
since his political career is now officially winding down. Good that he showed his true colors now though since there is plenty of time for candidate recuritment for 2006. Also Mr. Bustamante may resurrect his political fortunes by fighting to ensure that the ratepayers of California get their 9 billion which was ripped off so he should not cavalierly denigrate and dismiss him as not a hard worker.

Lockyer, who has worked hard on bringing the energy pirates to justice, just alienated both the party base and the so-called party leadership with this. He should have kept his mouth shut and just let people assume he voted for Bustamante.

Speaking of Bustamante, the recall may have finished his political career as well as that of Gray Davis. Bustamante had a sizable lead in the polls at one point, only to be handly defeated by a neophyte. That's not good for somebody looking for higher office.

Who does that leave? Feinstein? She'll be 70 by then. If she runs for anything in 2006, it will be to keep her seat in the Senate.

Suddenly, the Democrats don't seem to have anyone to run against Arnold. Considering the GOP really doesn't have anybody but Arnold, that's being in a real bad way.
