Bush enters immigration debate
EL MIRAGE, ARIZ. - President Bush flew into the heart of the nation's volatile debate over illegal immigration Monday and defended his administration's efforts to control the nearby border with Mexico after a surge of criticism from across the political spectrum.

Two weeks after the Democratic governors of Arizona and New Mexico declared states of emergency along the border, Bush used a Medicare speech here to promise local residents an increasingly robust federal campaign that will deploy more agents and provide more detention space to stop those trying to sneak into the country.

"We have an obligation to enforce the borders," Bush said to applause. "I understand it's putting a strain on your resources. What I'm telling you is there's a lot of people working hard to get the job done, but there is more we can do."

2. Debate! Oh no! The Hunchback is on the loose! Hide Your Women!
Ut oh, I think I just insulted Mary Cheney. Sorry hon. When your dad and his buddies are in trouble it seems to be unavoidable. Now where was Mary Cheney's son killed at? If I could just figure that out. I might be able to avoid insulting her again.

5. nice timing: Study: Terrorists still exploiting immigration laws to get in
WASHINGTON (AP) — Suspected or convicted foreign-born terrorists have routinely exploited federal immigration laws over the last decade to enter or remain in the United States illegally, according to a report set for release Tuesday.

U.S. border areas, such as this one with Mexico, sometimes provide a door for terrorists.

Once in the country, some of them became naturalized citizens, says the report distributed by the Center for Immigration Studies, an advocate for stricter immigration policies.

The report provides newly compiled data on U.S. terror arrests to illustrate gaps in the nation's border security, visa approval and immigration systems. It was written by Janice Kephart, who served as counsel to the 9/11 Commission that investigated missteps leading to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

"The attack of 9/11 was not an isolated instance of al-Qaeda infiltration into the United States," the 46-page report found.

8. Sit back and watch the fireworks
Because this is going to get interesting, as Bush has to simultaneously kow-tow to the wants of Repuke business interests that don't want to stem the flow of cheap, illegal labor as well as those of the sheet-wearing xenophobes who want a 20-foot wall built along the Mexican border.

10. Ain't it generous when the king speaks to the little people.
Golly gee, the king must defend the borders, and we little people
should chip in and die, as that is always more to die for.

But the emphasis is on the word "do", as in prodestant theory of life,
and his endemic frame of theocratic ignorance.
