Poll: Majority of Americans Support Cindy Sheehan

The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll shows that a majority of Americans support the actions of activist mom Cindy Sheehan and believe that the president should meet with her.

According to the poll, 52 percent of those surveyed say that the president should talk to Mrs. Sheehan, whose son Casey was killed in Iraq last year while 46 percent say he should not. Meanwhile, 53 percent of Americans support Mrs. Sheehan's actions in holding a vigil outside of Mr. Bush's Crawford, Texas, ranch while 42 percent oppose her actions.

....

Not surprisingly, the poll found Americans divided sharply along partisan lines. Roughly 70 percent of Democrats support Mrs. Sheehan's position on the ongoing war in Iraq while a like number of Republicans are opposed.

Interestingly enough, while the press has given Sheehan credit for galvanizing the anti-war movement, 80 percent of Americans say Sheehan's actions have not changed their attitudes towards to the war. The remaining 20 percent are split down the middle with 10 percent saying Mrs. Sheehan makes them more likely to support the war and 10 percent saying her actions make them more likely to oppose it.

2. 70% dems support Cindy on Iraq, but no dem presidential candidate has
expressed any support for her position. I think some have even asked to send more troops. Seems to me Democratic VOTERS need to wrest the party away from 'Democratic' party leadership.

9. The DNC "platform" calls for 100,000 more troops.
Clearly they are completely out of touch.

Come on mealy-mouthed Dems. Where the hell are you?

16. Then to hell with the DNC, the DLC, and the other pro-war SOBs!
Americans stand with Cindy. Her next camp should be outside Hillary's office.

15. Its the freep response.
Try to demoralize Sheehan supporters by saying Sheehan makes them want to support the war. Every one of these guys supported it before, guarunteed, and they would keep doing so until Rush tells them not to.

up and sent over to Iraq, some of our troops could finally COME HOME!!!!!!!!!!

BTW - please encourage enlistment among all your "friends" who eagerly sop up that Kool-aid and think supporting our troops means one of them neat-o cheap-ass yellow-ribbon car magnets from China.

I put a flyer on the front windshield of parked cars I see with "w04" or "bush/cheney" bumper stickers on them. Got it on the internet, I forget where, and tweaked it just a bit...

Dear friend and fellow American:

I know how much you support President Bush and the war effort in Iraq. But I noticed that you haven’t signed up to fight yet. It might be because you are too busy, or maybe you just didn’t know how easy it is to join! I know you probably feel guilty about sending other young men and women off to die in your place, so I am sure you’ll take this opportunity to do the right thing:

Sign up for a tour or two in Iraq today!

You will enable some poor soldier who’s stuck there, exhausted, scared, isolated, frustrated, thirsty, poorly supplied, insufficiently armored, under constant threat, lied to about why he’s there and when he’s going to be released, and yearning to come home – to do just that: come home!

What could possibly be more patriotic?

What better way could there be to prove your devotion to President Bush?

“…And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land. God bless the U.S.A.”

Below are the links you can use to sign up to join any branch of the armed forces!

I may start putting this on the windshields of parked cars with those nauseating yellow-ribbon "support our troops" magnets. Sorry, buying a cheap car magnet made in China is NOT the way to "support our troops." In fact, I saw some big-ass pickup truck with all these offensive "Freedom Isn't Free" and "Support Our Troops" and "God Bless America" and even an INCREDIBLY OFFENSIVE "War IS the Answer" stickers on it in the local village area. I put a note on the windshield that said: "Is your yellow ribbon buying them more body armor???? War is NOT the Answer!!!" If I see that damned truck around again, I'm gonna do it again.

21. Anybody know of polls saying how many *Dems* support Cindy's position?
Or how many *Dems* support Iraq war, want torture charges investigated, want Plamegate investigated, want Iraq buildup lies investigated, etc.?

My point is that DLC positions are NOT the positions of the vast majority of Dems, even if they are the positions of 40-50% (if that) of voters in general.

matters.

We are going to get what the Busheviks want us to get, and what are We gonna DO about it? Vote them out?

You want your vote counted in a National Election? Go to the Ukraine.

18. The proper response
I agree, Tom.

And the only useful response is to stop supporting candidates in our own party who lack the decency to represent us.

No one here should ever again fall for the surrender of "anybody but Bush." When one allows the party to dictate--as the pro-war Democrats now do--one becomes a nullity, a vote-surrendering robot answering to the programming of party hacks.

Sheehan offers hope. Into the vacuum left by the zeroes Hillary and Kerry, she has dared to enter and stake her energizing claim. She is now quite easily the most important woman in American politics.

6. WP: Slight Majority Say Bush Should Meet With Sheehan
Slightly more than half of the country says President Bush should meet with Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a soldier killed last year in Iraq, who is leading a protest against the war outside Bush's ranch in Crawford, Tex., according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The survey found that 52 percent of the public says Bush should talk to Sheehan, who has repeatedly asked for a meeting with the president, while 46 percent said he should not. Fifty-three percent support what she is doing while 42 percent oppose her actions, according to the poll.

10. Opposition to the war is the mainstream majority view
Let's remember that.

Ignore the corporate-owned meda, ignore the hate-filled Republicans, and try to ignore our silent Dem representation in Washington.

Push forward, people. We are the majority!
