91. You're f*d up
I don't agree with his politics, but I met the Senator on several occasions and he is a really nice guy who cares deeply about the people in his state. Attack his politics, attack his remarks at the b-day party but don't insinuate that he is so evil as to have human hide lampshades. It makes you sound as bad as Coulter , Rush or any of that other pond scum on the other side.

or that you have met the Senator. What you call pork has created a lot of jobs for people in south Mississippi which is one of the poorest areas in the country. A man has lost his house and I think we should show a little compassion instead of hate.

If he wants to stand with his party, over the well being of his constituents, then he's an Asshole.
If you want to stand next to him over the well being of your fellow citizens... then fill in the rest.

119. I'm bummed about...
...the classic Hammond organs in a lot of the churches and blues clubs down there that are as good as gone. I hate seeing a good B-3 and Leslie washed away, even though a submerged instrument can be salvaged if immediately attended to when fished out of the water. There was a great story about a B-3 that was used for a boat gig and went overboard at load-out...two days later the owner fished it out and his tech restored it.

Nothing in comparison to loss of life and personal devastation, but is a bummer sidebar for us musicians. Especially when NOLA has a LOT of great blues and jazz musicians, and many of them have now lost their instruments, which is a *devastating* loss to a musician, as your instrument becomes a part of you.

for the people of his district and work to help the most vulnerable and poorest of the poor...or do you think he will use this as an opportunity to line his pockets and enrich his friends? Stay tuned folks, the answer will be coming right after this break.

107. Agree
those statements are way, way over the top...

Lott is like every other politician, he brings home the bacon for his district in order to get re-elected. In that sense, he does the best for his people.

I don't like his politics but I don't hate the man.....just don't want him in office where he can do damage to the rest of us....

139. We allowed the corpwhorate owned MSM to
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 01:34 PM by Uncle Joe
brainwash the American People in to not thinking anymore. He is the price we pay for media deregulation, allowing the military industrial complex (which former President Eisenhower warned us against) and a hand full of mega corporations to own the press. This oligarchy of corporate prostitutes created a fake world or (Matrix if you will) for the rest of the nation to live in. This Matrix placed supreme importance on trivial things for the people to focus on. At the same time the leaders that took on issues that were vital to the people were ridiculed, demeaned or slandered. One prime example is the "War against Gore beginning about 1998 with the he claimed to have invented the internet lie instead of giving the man credit for his vision in becoming the primary champion of the internet while he was in congress, this of course hurt his credibility. When the corpwhorate MSM did cover the vital issues, they lied or obfuscated the story, the last thing they wanted to do was actually enlighten the American People. The MSM rarely if ever attempted to get the truth out, it was more like he said she said. They used codewords and subliminal language to fool the people. The vital issue of the day, and this was after Osama declared his war against us, was who would rather have in your home for a beer and that is how we ended up with the corrupt/incompetents in power to this day.

in his family for generations. That he has memories of growing up in this house and memories of past family members in this house....

"Lott had owned the house, where his children grew up, for at least 20 years, Irby said."

Hell, I have t-shirts that I've owned longer than he's owned that home.

24. No Pity, No Satisfaction
He is one of tens (or hundreds?) of thousands.

He is in a better position than most to rebuild. He will not be homeless or living in a tent or trailer, as many people are, waiting years for rebuilding. Because of who he is, rebuilding his home will be a priority while others make do and wait months or years to have a home again.

But, it has to be hard psychologically to lose a home, and he is not so evil that I would rejoice at something bad happening to him, except maybe, getting removed from office :P

49. I LOVE Your Observation masshole
The right loves to talk about how the people in public housing are living it up. Another thread quoted some Freehole who lamented that the flooding hadn't wiped out the poor (i.e. black) sections of town saying "we built the government housing too strong." Wonder if they'll still be making smart-ass remarks when they realize how many whites like Trent Lott will be homeless when this is over.
BTW, wouldn't it be great to see a man with a reputation for racial-tolerance like Trent Lott forced to live in public housing? I'm sure his new neighbors would simply ADORE him. In a just world this would happen...

42. Ignoring the remarks, this could be a PLUS in terms of weakening chimp
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 06:59 PM by MADem
Trent Lott has no damn love for the chimp, who tossed him to the curb in favor of the more malleable Frist...see, Trent HAD power, and he did not always agree with chimpy. Chimpy used the Strom thing to dump the sometimes intractable Lott in favor of wussie Frist--everyone KNOWS this.

Chimpy could have left Trent where he was, that Strom business would have blown over--remember, Trent went on BET, and that took balls, and apologized.

Trent has enough clout on the Hill that he kept his extra large office, his mega sized staff, AND his car and driver, as a "LEADER (edit) emeritus" of sorts. That is MOST unusual.

Trent has backdoor brokered a ton of deals where Fristy jus' wussint gittin' it done. He still has FRIENDS. He can still make things happen, and fuck stuff up.

Trent holds GRUDGES.

Now, if people on the Hill decide to start carping about FEMA, preparedness, funding cuts, and so forth, and Trent comes out strong on these issues--and odds are, he will, because remember, not just himself, but his constituency took a MAJOR beating--he could really paint the chimp as an asshole if he so chose. And like I said, he holds grudges....

This could be good....

48. Trent Shouldn't Expect Any Help From Bush
Trent recently wrote an autobiography in which he criticized Bush for abandoning him and leaving him swinging in the wind, after his faux pas praising old honest Strom. Bush doesn't take criticism lightly. And as John McCain found out in 2000 Shrubya will attack Rethugs just as viciously as Democrats if they cross him. If I were Trent I wouldn't expect any help from Washington anytime soon. Mississippi has been abandoned just like New Orleans.

Nagin said the sandbagging was scheduled for midday, but the Blackhawk helicopters needed to help did not show up. He said the sandbags were ready and all the helicopter had to do was "show up." He said after his afternoon helicopter tour of the city, he was assured that officials had a plan and a timeline to drop the sandbags on the levee breach.

He said he was told that the helicopters may have been diverted to rescue about 1,000 people in a church, but he is still not sure who gave the order

83. Team: Favre learns family home destroyed in Mississippi
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-packers-favre-hurricane&prov=ap&type=lgns

<snip>

"Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre spent most of the last two days nervously waiting to hear from family members in his hometown of Kiln, Miss., in the heart of the Gulf Coast area devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

The Packers said Favre finally spoke to his mother, Bonita, late Tuesday afternoon when she was able to reach him with the help of a Houston television station in the area covering hurricane damage.

According to the team, Favre said his mother reported spending Monday night in the family attic, along with his grandmother, after the house filled up with water within a matter of 5-10 minutes, much like a tsunami.

On Tuesday, the water receded enough that she was able to leave the family home and go to his brother Jeff's nearby house, which is slightly higher and away from the water."

<snip>

"She indicated the family home is destroyed and probably will have to be bulldozed, but the good news is that everyone in the family appears to be fine."

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Trent Lott's oceanfront house in Pascagoula, Mississippi, was among the thousands of homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, according to the senator's spokeswoman.

"He's been told there's nothing left" of the 154-year-old house, said Susan Irby, a spokeswoman for the Republican senator. "They plan to go out to see if they can recover any valuables."
