(NOTE: CNN is working from ABC transcript)

(snip)

"The folks on the Gulf Coast are going to need the help of this country for a long time. This is going to be a difficult road. The challenges that we face on the ground are unprecedented, but there's no doubt in my mind that we're going to succeed." (Transcript)

He told communities affected by the storm, "The country stands with you" and pledged, "We'll do all in our power to help you."

Bush announced that he has created a Cabinet-level task force to coordinate hurricane relief efforts across federal agencies, headed by Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff.

The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Michael Brown, will be in charge of the federal response on the ground in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

The White House also announced Wednesday that Bush has asked his father, former President George H.W. Bush, and former President Bill Clinton to spearhead an international relief effort for hurricane victims, similar to the effort they undertook for victims of last year's tsunami in South Asia.

7. Because Clinton and GHW Bush are good fundraisers, with specific groups
Clinton can get Hollywood and the liberal wealthy to donate.

GHW Bush can get the blue-bloods and conservative groups to donate.

They need the million dollar contributions to get things rolling.

18. What about Chimp using our tax $$'s.
Why is he always begging us to donate money?
He should have saved money, personnel to HELP.

In no way will I not donate but I am pissed that Bush has no plan and no money that he wil give to New Orleans.

He found all kinds of time and money to give to his bro Jeb.
Notice, no funds for the leavees and no support for African American elected officials or AA people that are poor.

He is a criminal.

9. The father can stay in Houston and make meals for people in the
Astrodome. I would much rather see Clinton doing it by himself. When Clinton is with the Sr he feels reluctant to critisize the son. That's why they are doing it that way and all talk of their "bond." They are disarming him.

33.  Bush Taps Father, Clinton for Relief Help
When in deep shit, call in the BIG DOG....

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050901/ap_on_go_pr_wh/katrina_washington;_ylt=AkuS9ObO3lNRMOAlbtfyPfFH2ocA;_ylu=X3oDMTA3MjBwMWtkBHNlYwM3MTg-

WASHINGTON - President Bush will tour the hurricane devastated Gulf Coast region on Friday and has asked his father, former President George H.W. Bush, and former President Clinton to lead a private fund-raising campaign for victims, the White House said Thursday. ......."I fully understand people wanting things to have happened yesterday," he said in a live interview in the Roosevelt Room of the White House with ABC's "Good Morning America" program. "I understand the anxiety of people on the ground. ... So there is frustration. But I want people to know there's a lot of help coming."

He said that while the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 were a man-made disaster, the aftermath of Sept. 11 and Hurricane Katrina were "just as serious in both cases."

"New Orleans is more devastated than New York was," Bush said.

Bush has directed his staff to try to assess the economic impact of the storm as the administration prepares an emergency budget request or Congress. Bush was hearing his economic advisers' preliminary estimate in the afternoon after a lunch with Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan.

65. Bush Taps Father, Clinton for Relief Help
WASHINGTON -President Bush will tour the hurricane-devastated Gulf Coast region on Friday and has asked his father, former President George H.W. Bush, and former President Clinton to lead a private fund-raising campaign for victims.

"This is an agonizing time for the people of the Gulf Coast," Bush said Thursday as he stood with the two former presidents in the White House and urged patience, saying relief is on the way.

OUT THERE WITH THE REPUBLICANS?

WHY IS BILL CLINTON PULLING JUNIOR'S BACON OUT OF THE FIRE AGAIN?

Pisses me off! His presence gives a legitimacy to this little initiative of the Bushs'. (... and I mean L I T T L E !)

71. A plan to deliver the help should have been put in place years ago.

Especially when it became clear that the shoring up of the levees could not be completed.

This is a colossal failure of leadership and management on the local, state, AND Federal levels.

73. He asked all to give money to Red Cross. WTF???.......
The RED CROSS is such a corrupt organization here in the US.

Its called the "take your money and run" which follows the
GOP thuggery policies.

I would never give one dime to the Red Cross.

74. Thus proving again how chickenhearted Shrub is.
These people don't need figureheads, they need relief, and they need ot now. It's freaking pandemonium down there, and so far nothing has been done.

78. Clinton at press conference
Looked pissed. In fact, he looked furious. Usually he at least has one smile, but not this time. Of the three men up there he seemed to be the only one really aware of how dire this thing is.
