Bush sees temporary hit to economy from storm

WASHINGTON, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Hurricane Katrina will represent a temporary setback for the U.S. economy and the energy sector, President George W. Bush said after he met on Thursday with his economic team and Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan.

"In our judgment, we view this storm as a temporary disruption that is being addressed by the government and by the private sector," Bush told reporters.

Bush acknowledged, however, "it's going to be hard to get gasoline to some markets."

He also called on Americans to conserve energy, telling them: "Don't buy gas if you don't need it."

2. Yeah, right. Temporary. Mmmm, do you really think gas prices will
decrease after this?

Once they know consumers will pay, they've got us and they won't be changing those numbers any time soon.

Yesterday afternoon gas in VT was $2.53 at its highest in my city (I drive by several stations on my route to/from work).

This morning = $3.00.

My thoughts... mmmm.... gouging? I mean... they didn't pay a higher price for what's in those tanks under the pumps, did they? Magicall everyone got gas deliveries last night?

I can't believe people would do this to their neighbors. But then, I'm hopelessly naive when it comes to the depths human nature can sink.

Oi.

6. You know, this guy's not even on the radar screen...
You read about the people who need help and the people trying to give help; you read about the people who are living a nightmare that could end in death at any moment, and this twerp chimes in with these platitudes? If he were there, I'm sure those people trying to render aid would just say, "Shut up, George, and get the hell out of the way..."

This moron is a nonentity.

23. "Don't buy gas if you don't need it." I see he thinks we don't understand
basic economics either.

Economics 101: In a time of inflation, buy as much as you can. It WILL be more expensive the next time you buy it. (If it is a time of inflation)

In times of Deflation, buy as little as possible, it will cost less next time. (during deflation).

We no longer live in a society.
We are an economy.

27. I hope you won't mind if I bypass economics advice from our first "MBA"
"president" who most famously said, "I know it's a budget, it's got lots of numbers in it".

"Don't buy gas if you don't need it" - Anyone here buy gas just for shits and giggles?

:wtf: is wrong with this fucknozzle*?

32. Starting with the price of gas killing Labor Day weekend.
For thousands of resorts, Labor Day is the last hurrah of the money making season. Losing it will severely damage their annual intake. Money that they need to prep for the off season, do off season maintenance, getting ready for next summer, is not going to happen. The supplies they would have bought, won't be. Tens of thousands laid off earlier than expected.

And that's just one sector of the economy.

33. Like a "temporary" hit by a bus
My guess is that it will take months for the nation to recover from the disruptions caused by the damage to the Gulf coast. It will take years for the areas actually hit by the storm to recover - if they come back at all.
