WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush's national security adviser insisted Sunday that the U.S. fight against terrorism is not a war between Christianity and Islam, despite a top general's comments that seemed to say it is.

But Condoleezza Rice twice avoided a question about whether Bush will condemn statements by Army Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin, the deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence.

``The president has been absolutely clear that this is not a war of religions,'' Rice told ABC's ``This Week.''

``Islam is a peaceful religion. The president is respectful of those who practice the Islamic faith,'' Rice said from Thailand, where Bush was attending a summit of Asian and Pacific nations.

This quote, to me, just says all that needs to be said about these fanatics who have taken over our country. They truly believe that God - their God, of course - appointed that greedy moron imposter to control the world's most frightening military force. Yes, the God of love and peace and forgiveness personally appointed the embarrassing awol man-boy brat to slaughter untold tens (hundreds?) of thousands of innocents in an effort to kill a rival god. They believe it. And little hitler believes it too.

I cannot find the words to describe my utter disbelief at what I have just read, and what I have just written.

This should wake up the remaining sleeping sheep, it should. At some point, doesn't the good of the country, the good of the world, the good of humanity outweigh some misguided blind devotion to this man made of nothing?

3. I saw this...

Judas Stephanopolis asked the question, as the report says, twice. After the second rambling diatribe about Shrub, God, and whatever, and blatantly refusing to answer his direct question, he just politely thanked her for talking with him and went on to the next issue.

I don't fault Condesleeza for evading the question (what else would you expect?) as much as I do Stephanopolis for letting her and all the rest of the Bushies get away with this kind of crap.

11. I've been wondering about that

When the hosts of these political interest talk shows ask questions during the interview and the guest evades the question, is the interviewer really at fault to let good manners let the question drop? I have often wondered why the interviewer does not go after a point more doggedly, yet at the same time, is it better to let the "non-answer" stand, thus revealing that the guest will only equivocate while preserving an appearance of neutrality?

It seems like the hosts of these shows are just playing a game where the rules, and boundaries for polite discussion, are understood. I have to wonder, though, if I am pissed off and the Limbaugh-crowd is pissed at these same hosts (George S. et al) does it mean that, in fact, they are doing something right?

I am playing up to lowered expectations, I suppose, but..?

16. at some point, it becomes pointless

If it's clear the person is not going to answer the question, it becomes a judgement call how much time to get into it.

In this case, George dropped it way too soon, imo. Her answer was absolutely stupid and contradictory. How can Bush hold those views she claims, and yet not say a single word about Boykin? It's just simply stupid, and George should have pressed it.

Russert failed similarly with Novak last week. Way too easy on him, especially considering Russert's rep as a tough interviewer.

7. Violations of DOD equal opportunity laws

...by Boykin will not be sanctioned in any way. It is official repuke policy that equal opportunity is nothing more than political correctness.

Publicly ridiculing particular ethnic groups or religions is specially forbidden by DOD regulations. It proves he is not fit to be in office. He is incompetent to be an undersecretary or an intelligence officer as his views have no connection with reality. Of course many Army officers share his off balanced views. They believe that the armed forces are a Christian cloistered order.

12. Text and Subtext

It is important to understand and think critically of the messages the Administration is sending.

Rice seems to think, incorrectly in my opinion, that justifications for the war are simply what is stated. She is mistaken.

The subtext of this war shows clearly why it is being fought. The U.S. generals, the President's advisors, the acts of all of the agencies, including the new homeland groups, and the President's confidant's reveal that it is religion-based. The same may be true for Tony Blair.

Rice refers to the text, the stated reason for the war, repeatedly, but this is really meaningless in light of all of the evidence to the contrary. It doesn't matter what the President has said, everything he has done has contradicted what he has stated.

It is similar to listening to someone talk about Budweiser, Coors, Amstel, Heineken, and Guiness, discuss how they are made, how much they cost, how they are best served, and the different types each brand makes, tasting and temperature for service, etc., then have them tell you that they do not drink. The subtext is screaming at you otherwise.

Yet many simply listen to the textual lie, shrug, and continue about their business.

And this Administration has used this tactical lie in virtually every situation -- the War in Iraq, based on a series of changing lies, the Terrorism War, which appears to be a war driven by Christian fundamentalists seeking a primitive sacred rapture, the environment, which has been undermined at every level and at every opportunity, labor and wage legislation, health care, even the notoriously racist acts that hide obtusely behind "Compassionate Conservatism."
