CNN: Bush: "Results are not acceptable"
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 08:39 AM by BloodyWilliam
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/02/katrina.impact/index.html

President Bush told reporters on Friday that millions of tons of food and water are on the way to the people stranded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina -- but he said the results of the relief effort "are not acceptable."

</snip>

...

NO FUCKING SHIT! And part of it's your fault for not immediately getting your ass in gear and coordinating relief efforts, you bastard!

I hope he burns for this. Bush makes Louis XVI look like FDR.

EDIT: Typo in headline.

EDIT AGAIN: Added URL. *sigh*

how can he say that the results are unacceptable. It's his country for God's sake. While this tragedy was happening, a CAT 5 hurricane hitting the gulf coast, he vacationed, played golf, visited a resort, strummed a guitar, went to a fundraiser, and ate birthday cake.

I would say that BUSH IS UNACCEPTABLE!

108. He was waiting for some serious casualties.
I have NO doubt Bush was waiting for a lot of people in Louisiana to die. What else can you conclude?

He knew what was happening, I'm sure they kept him updated constantly. And yet he fiddled while N. Orleans sank.

Why should he care? These people are a)not wealthy so he sees no need to help them b) a vast majority of them are probably Dems, so now they're radioactive.

12. Bush says relief results 'not acceptable'
WASHINGTON - President Bush, facing blistering criticism for his administration's response to Hurricane Katrina, said Friday "the results are not acceptable" and pledged to bolster relief efforts with a personal trip to the Gulf Coast.

"We'll get on top of this situation," Bush said, "and we're going to help the people that need help."

http://www.sunherald.com/mld/sunherald/12541444.htm

he completely fucks things up & then says it's not acceptable!

20. So that's when you would want all the relief to enter the city
Just as a hurricane was coming inot the city that would most likely destroy everything you just brought in. Not to mention the people, I guess the relief people should have been in place and just told to ride it out.

25. My concern is the inaction of the local officials on the scene
There was complete and utter chaos and confusion. Why didn't they have a plan in place for evacuating the city ? Why didn't they have a plan in place for getting into the city ofter such a disaster. They know the city better than anyone else. But mostly, why in the fuck did they somehow forget to tell FEMA that they had opened up the convention center as a refugee area ?

I guess you're fine with bush doing exactly what he did in the last week. Sorry, I mean five days.

He has the look of a Schmoozer, or a Used Car Salesman. Notice, how he's playing the part of a Musician. He gets into it. Loves the feeling of adulation.

47. Local Government Has to Be Proactive early on
I am not saying that we are anywhere near 100% in the SF Bay Area but after Loma Prieta and the Oakland Hills fires -- we did get our act together.

We have - across the entire Bay Area - a very well organized Program. Including Civil Air Patrol, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Urban Search and Rescuce Corps, Mountain/Wilderness Search and Rescue Corps - as well as good relationships within the Red Vross and Salvation Army colunteers.

We have serious, full time Directors of Emergency Services across the Bay Area who tie things together - and in many communities we have a "Chief Officer" in the Fire and/or Police Department to work full time with the community (NGO volunteers).

In the land of the San Andreas Fault and the Calaveras-Hayward Fault we know a "Big One" is coming.

We live with it -- we plan for it -- we train for it.

And out training is across organixations -- and with the California - and here's a .

But the flood waters resulting from the Hurricane were enough to cause the leeves to fail. This is a fact. What is also a fact is your man Bush deverted money from this situation despite pleas from the Army Corp of Engineers and others. Article after pre Katrina article states this even people who worked for Bush claim this is true.

42. You have to prepare for the worst
The storm slammed Mississippi directly, where probably at least a 1,000 people will end up dead. New Orleans was always in danger -- everyone knew that the levees would be endangered by a massive storm, and the back side of a Category 4.

On Sunday night, everyone feared that new Orleans was about to be hit by a Category 5. We should have had national guard and massive federal relief aid ready to pour in directly behind the Hurricane. If we didn't need them, fine, but they should have been prepared. Not eating cake and strumming guitars in San Diego.

the tsunami...there was NO WARNING for that, yet aid was there much quicker. About not telling FEMA - isn't FEMA watching news?

Empty excuses - there is plenty of blame to go around, but we have a COMMANDER IN CHIEF - somewhere, the buck needs to stop with that morally bankrupt, lost misleader.

Now go away and think about what people are telling you. Engage your atrophied brain, open your eyes.

70. On Monday the main storm had passed over and they were worried about levee
They were worried about the water being pushed up against the levee and the levee breaching. They were worried and warning that the worst could still come. Perhaps you watch/read the good-news stations and not the real-news stations. Many people knew and the warnings were still out. Hell, I knew and I'm a middle aged mom on the other side of the country.

41. No. Supply chain gets set up out of theater. Ready to open up
and respond as storm passes.

Short range (Near immediate response 0-2 days). Food, water, fuel, emergency shelter, communications, medical supplies. That's common sense emergency planning. Most of this would be local with massive federal support.

Mid-range (3-4 days) planning would include things such as building materials, medical facilities, relocation equipment, communication equipment, emergency organization coordination, front line emergency administration (FEMA), equipment specialized for geographic considerations.

Longer range (5-8 days). Build temporary relocation facilities, additional medical facilities, clothing, food and water centers. Refugee camps/centers as required for longer term housing and support.

In this case, pre-disaster planning would have involved adequate maintenance and expansion of all critical levees. Adequate emergency evacuation planning- routes, equipment and manpower for the 100,000 people who have no way of leaving the city.

These are common sense emergency responses. I am sure Cuba, Bangladesh, Pakistan and India could also provide some practical tips for surviving this type of catastrophe given that they are often lashed by hurricanes and hurricane-like monsoons.

103. NO, that's when I would want the relief teams
to start being organized. Get the trucks, supplies, and rescue teams ready to move into the city as soon as the hurricane passes. Put them into Texas, into Ok, into Ga. As news comes in of the movement of the eye, move the teams closer and closer to the area where the hurricane will hit, but keep them out of danger.

Is that so hard? Isn't that what SHOULD have been done, so the teams could immediately go into the city once the hurricane had passed?

Of course, how could anyone have predicted a hurricane would hit NO in August? <extreme sarcasm>

113. There is a way to have relief waiting and not get it killed
Get a map and draw the widest plausible storm track you can. Then you draw another pair of lines 100 miles to either side of the storm track.

Stage half of your collected relief force on either side of the storm. You don't put it all in the same place because sure as shit, the storm would shift 180 miles toward your guys and wipe them off the planet. If you split it, even the worst-case scenario (total devastation of wherever your guys are) will only eliminate half of your relief crews.

After the storm dies down, you're looking at getting aid there within a day, not within a week like George let happen.

..and we all know how hard a time he has coming to grips with his own shortcomings. Someone else usually suffers because he can't call 'no joy' and accept reality, but when has he ever had to deal with reality? Daddy's friends always fixed everything.

The man's completely mentally incapable of handling this.

of someone running up to bush and asking what to do for some particular situation and bush standing there looking dumb, looking all around for one of his advisors to tell him what to do.

In my mind this man is completely unable to do anything or make any decision about anything important.

28. Where is Truman's "The Buck Stops Here" desk plate?
Who appointed Chertoff, Mike Brown, and and Pat Rhode.

Chertoff is a trial lawyer. Now while trial lawyers can try cases - can they manage an Emergency Response and Public Safety Department?

Brown and Rhode - GOP political hacks.

I have had enough of "Idiot Son's" shirking responsibility.

29. I was bubbling over on the way to work this morning...
... listening to just 10 minutes of a call-in program on Wisconsin Public Radio (on business in Northwest Milwaukee 'burbs). There was a laissez-faire moderator and two guests; it sounded like each guest represented the Right and Left.

I was stunned at the quantity of propaganda, misinformation and emotional labelling the Bushcovite was able to spew within the 10-minute commute from my hotel to the office.

- Repealing the tax cuts to pay for the 10.5B relief package was unnecessary. The money could easily be found within some other program(s). And neither the moderator or supposedly-Left guest pointed out that it was just that method of government that had led to what we're seeing in New Orleans, LA, MS & AL: Bush robbed FEMA of funds, and demoted and deconstructed it. FEMA, itself, has been hit by a disaster -- Bush -- and is apparently ineffectual.

- It's "class warfare" to suggest repealing the tax cuts "for the rich" or to return the estate tax to its previous level. Ummm... Take a look at New Orleans and tell me that's not a result of the wealthy's warfare against the poor.

Aaaagh. I could go on, but need to get to work. So that I can help fund the slaughter of Iraqis, and second and third homes for my masters.

31. Words, words... Meaningless words! Someone needs to be fired!
Either he needs to announce Chertoff's bering fired as being inept in his command of FEMA or fire himself and resign NOW!

If he does neither, then these words mean NOTHING! Someone needs to be held accountable for this criminal negligence! This is a pattern that has continued from day one of his administration. He continually gives us excuses and never holds anyone accountable for his messes!

Have to give Bushco credit you know; the GOP always has railed about the evils and ineffectiveness of "big government" and they are certainly proving their point...

78. Not just Bush
The President can only ask for budget cuts, it's the Congress that passes the bills.

And the Republicans control both houses, so they with the open eyed assistance of some DINO's cut the funding, Bush just signed what they
approved.

So, once again the blame for the cuts in funding are as much the fault of Congress as they are Bush's.

I went to add my vote to the CNN "has Bush done enough" poll and was so disappointed that all I could do was vote no and not "JEBUS HOLY FUCKING SHIT NO!"

And there, at the top of the page, was Dubya kissing a woman who'd been through the Biloxi storm in the most repugnant photo op since "Mission Accomplished."

It's not surprising that the "No" votes were leading the poll with 80%, but I despair that 20% could actually vote yes. Thousands of people left with no food, water, medicine or shelters, bodies in the streets being gnawed on by rats, children and elderly dying for lack of something as simple as drinking water . . . well, he had guitars to play, birthday cake to eat, and the helicopters and guardsmen are busy with that Iraq thing.

94. Here's the Reuters Report
Katrina response unacceptable-Bush
Fri Sep 2, 2005 12:31 PM ET

By Steve Holland

MOBILE, Alabama (Reuters) - President Bush, facing scathing criticism of the government response to Hurricane Katrina, conceded on Friday it had been unacceptable as he visited the ravaged Gulf Coast and flooded New Orleans. "Where it's not working right, we're going to make it right," Bush said. "We are going to restore order in the city of New Orleans."

En route to the area, White House spokesman Scott McClellan pointed specifically to the security situation at the New Orleans Convention Center where thousands of hungry, thirsty and homeless people have gathered in search of help. "We're all disturbed by the images," McClellan said. "It's terrible to see human suffering like this and that's why we need to make sure we get help to those people." Bush said the destruction looked "as if the entire Gulf Coast were obliterated by the worst kind of weapon you can imagine."

He spoke as criticism mounted of his administration's response to likely the nation's worst natural disaster, including the adequacy of its funding for New Orleans' levees and its readiness for the disaster. Concerns were also growing over the U.S. economy as gasoline prices surge above $3 a gallon....

(clip)

...Back in Washington, congressional black leaders said the black and poor population of New Orleans was suffering disproportionately. "In the last 140 or so hours we have witnessed something shockingly awful, and that is the lack of response, a quick response, from our government to those Americans who are suffering or dying," said Illinois Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., son of the civil rights leader....
