Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's approval rating continues to lag, with the majority of Californians showing discontent with the job he's doing, according to a poll of registered voters released Friday.

As of late August, only 36 percent of registered voters approved of the governor's performance, while 52 percent disapproved, with 12 percent having no opinion, the nonpartisan Field Poll reported.

Schwarzenegger's approval rating has taken a sharp dip since February, when 55 percent approved of his job.

Respondents cited Schwarzenegger's call for a November special election as a major factor influencing their opinion.

Fifty-seven percent opposed his call for the election. Disapproval rose when respondents were told how much the special election would cost, with 63 percent opposing it.

Increasing numbers of California voters oppose the special election that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has called for Nov. 8, with 57 percent of them saying he should call it off, according to a Field Poll released today.

Only 34 percent of voters think the governor, who is backing three self- described reform measures on the ballot, should go through with plans for the election, which is expected to cost about $50 million.

Opposition to the special election has helped fuel a broad-based erosion of support for the governor during the past year, with 52 percent of voters now disapproving of the job that Schwarzenegger is doing. Last August, 65 percent of voters surveyed approved of the job he was doing, and just 22 percent disapproved.

2. Hopefully they will turn out to vote AGAINST the gropemeister in the
special election. Then it will have been worth it.

who organized this pathetic recall on Davis in order to inappropriately thrust a MEpublican into the governor's office.

Cheap, dirty tactics were rewarded, not thwarted.
