Trip to Iraq makes lasting impression, (Rep.) Lewis says
WASHINGTON — Traveling through Iraq, Rep. Jerry Lewis said he saw the blight of the people and became incensed when he saw that former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein lived in palaces furnished with gold.

Lewis was part of a delegation with 16 other members of Congress — Democrats and Republicans, those who voted for the resolution to go to war, and those who did not. They toured Iraq before federal lawmakers voted Wednesday to pass an $87 billion supplement plan to support U.S. efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Lewis traveled through the killing fields in Iraq, where people were often shot and buried alive during Saddam's reign, he said. The delegates saw pieces of clothing stick up through the ground.

Lewis and the other delegates were floored when they learned of Iraq's child mortality rate, which is higher than India's.

"If that's not terrorism, I don't know what is," Lewis said.

3. Is it really that unusual
that rulers live in palace-like accommodations while members of the populace live in squalor? Witness *, who lives in relative splendor, waited on hand and foot, as does Queen Elizabeth, who really does live in palaces and castles with gold fixtures.

5. And where does Bush live? And Cheney? and Wolfie?
Anybody see Ken Lays estate? WTF is Lewis talking about? America doesn't have poor people and 'squalor?' Ever been to Appalacia, the inner cities of NY, MI, CA, NM, NJ? Does he know what the infant mortality rate of Black children is in America? And what was the child mortality rate BEFORE Desert Storm?

These Congressional dolts make me sick. They are about as ignorant as they come...but then look who elected them.

7. Exactly - They Live IN Our Modern Equivalents Over Here

And where is all the compassion for American children without health care? Sounds like a sanction to me.

Or how about elderly people that must choose between food and drugs? Sounds like a sanction to me.

Maybe the nine million unemployed are all just paranoid schizophrenics? Sounds like a sanction to me.

These people live such isolated lives in the United States that they have no bloody clue what is really going on.

Sad.

8. US Execs buy $6000 shower curtain
While this guy looted other peoples money, the poor had no health insurance.

"Kozlowski has been indicted for defrauding the company and stockholders of hundreds of millions of dollars and fined for not paying millions in taxes. He personifies the excesses of the booming 1990s with his purchases of a $6,000 shower curtain, a set of sheets for $5,900, a $31 million apartment and a $20 million yacht."

15. No relation to the comedian.
Read about Jerry's son Gary: "I do remember when Gary Lewis went into the U.S. Military Service, the Army. Recalling that it was big news covered by the media when Jerry Lewis was expressing anger over his son's returning from Vietnam. It seems Jerry was mad because Gary came back from Nam addicted to drugs. Jerry Lewis blamed the U.S. Military openly for allowing and having caused Gary's addiction. Jerry then made the statement, "The U.S. Military Service will never get their hands on another one of my sons again!" Jerry put Gary in rehabilitation to recover from his drug habit. I also remember that Gary & Jerry Lewis did not get along very well after this drug thing."

10. This is exactly what they did in Vietnam.
They send groups of congressmen over on military flights, then put on the dog and pony shows for them once they get there. They travel from one military installation to another, with one or two off-the-reservation incursions into the actual populace to view well protected, carefully selected things like model schools.

The duly brainwashed solons then return and tell the press how much progress we're making there, and how things are really much better than the press says they are.

It's phony baloney, and somebody in the media who has a memory ought to call them about it.
