Administration to Release 30 Million Barrels of Crude Oil
Bush Administration to Release 30 Million Barrels of Crude Oil From Reserve Stocks

The Bush administration said Friday it will release 30 million barrels of oil from the nation's strategic stockpile and that another 60 million will come from overseas to relieve an energy crunch caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman called this an initial move, part of what he called an "aggressive" federal response to the hurricane disaster. The fuel being released by the Paris-based International Energy Agency will be in the form of both crude oil and gasoline and it will be released over the coming month.
The 30 million barrels of U.S. reserves are crude oil, Bodman noted.
