Jackson Blasts Bush Over Katrina Aid
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 03:25 PM by RaRa
BATON ROUGE, La. - Racism is partly to blame for the deadly aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Rev.
Jesse Jackson said, calling
President Bush's response to the disaster "incompetent."

"Today, as the President comes to Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi for his ceremonial trip to look at the victims of the devastation, he would do well to have a plan more significant than a ceremonial tour," Jackson said Friday.

"His whole response is unacceptable."

Now, I'd like to hear some white leaders repeat this.

2. Some Repub Governor was going to plead with the prez to get Colin Powell
to run this disaster. As he was saying this, I was thinking it wouldn't happen. I think Colin Powell and GW probably had a falling out after the false WMD info that Powell had to include in his a UN speech.

5. Powell said...
...that he and his wife have had Bush & Laura over to dinner since he's been out of office, so I don't think there's bad blood between the two. Don't think that Powel would want to be involved with the N.O. cleanup since the local and federal folks seem to be in a finger-pointing contest.

Jesse Jackson hits out at Bush, suggests race behind New Orleans' plight
BATON ROUGE, United States (AFP) - Civil Rights leader Jesse Jackson fired off a fierce attack on President George W. Bush over Hurricane Katrina and claimed black people were being locked out of top relief roles.

Jackson raised the sensitive issue of race, simmering below the surface in New Orleans, even before the hurricane tragedy, pointing out that many of those trapped in the city by the storm were poor and black.

"There is a historical indifference to the pain of poor people, and black people ... we seem to adjust more easily to black pain."

And he also criticized the role given to former presidents George Bush senior and Bill Clinton as coordinators for a fund raising effort following the Katrina tragedy, similar to their role as tsunami fund raisers. "Why are there no African Americans in that circle?" Jackson asked.

7. And, since he got there first to do hands on work,
what can they say about this? He's not just standing around SAYING, "what a shame," he's actually boots on the ground in the war zone.
