Halliburton hired for storm cleanup
The Navy has hired Houston-based Halliburton Co. to restore electric power, repair roofs and remove debris at three naval facilities in Mississippi damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Halliburton subsidiary KBR will also perform damage assessments at other naval installations in New Orleans as soon as it is safe to do so.

112. Because you've seen it all?
I know I have.

"Halli-fucking-burton." That's what I call them. I am generally loathe to swear, but they have made me re-think that position through constant assaults on all that is good, decent, and loving in the world. They are vultures. "We prey on death, sickness and misfortune -all over the globe." That should be their advertising tagline.

So there you have it. H-F-B.

Lt. Gen. Steven Blum, chief of National Guard, said that by Saturday night, there
will be 7,000 National Guard soldiers in New Orleans. He said half of them had just returned
from assignments overseas and are "highly proficient in the use of lethal force." He
pledged to put down the violence "in a quick and efficient manner. :puke:

They are "special" and the boyking's pal Rummy is making sure the cash flows to those peckers...they've scaled back in Iraq because parts of their contracts are too dangerous, but I guess they figure they can handle a bunch of starved, weakened, flooded out Americans.

Bush evaded a question earlier, when he was asked who would help rebuild. He said, 'people who know about rebuilding,' something like that, not an exact quote. I knew it was going to be Halliburton.

58. Could there be a legit reason for this?
Really, I'm asking seriously... I got into it on a freeper board about Halliburton in Iraq and the response was that Halliburton was the only company 'able' to do the job, and that if I knew otherwise, I should provide a list of other companies that could have done just as good a job. I didn't have a list. So if I'm going to talk about this elsewhere, I just want all my bases covered.

Is there some reason that could be used for Halliburton & subsidies to have been given this contract and not another company?

to provide disaster relief. Now we know that takes national tax revenues to support and there is little profit to be had there so we get THe CHeney GRoup.I guess as long as we don't mind having all our personal decisions and power provided in a democracy taken from us along with lots more money,of course hire Halliburton. But they are not accountable to us, just the DUDE that hires them. Liberty was purchased by too many of our ancestors and parents to give it up to Greedy,Callous,Ruthless, No matter how efficient Halliburton.

They can't lose. In every possible sense of the word. While Americans suffer, toil, starve, or sacrifice buying goods to simply drive their cars, Bush and his friends gain and profit.

I want to know just how much money Halliburton will be paid to do this contracted work.

I want to know just how much of the 10.5 billion dollar package is going straight to Bush's cronies.

100. no way... how many $ have been siphoned away
from projects, such as FEMA planned (then denied) efforts at disaster prevention, for obscene war profiteering and gouging at the hands of Halliburton. This, really, is obsene. Even if one can't draw a direct connection (as I infer above) this company has gouged tax payers and committed fraud against tax payers - they are the last company that should be profitting from this disaster.

124. COST-PLUS means ...
... I work in construction, and a "cost-plus" contract means that it is essentially not bid (imagine that, Halliburton not having to worry about bidding something). Halliburton does not have to worry about how much money they are spending to get the job done. They will simply tell the government how much it costs, and then add their markup on top of it, which is a percentage of the cost. So, the more tax-money they spend, the higher profit they make.

Don't get me wrong, I don't believe this is the time to nitpick about cost, but with Halliburton's track record, they will simply turn this into another massive profit exercise for themselves. I can only hope there will be more fallout if they get caught screwing us in the gulf coast more than they did screwing us in Iraq.

From the article:

The company, headed by Dick Cheney before he became vice president, has close ties to the Bush administration, and earlier this year confirmed that it had hired Joseph M. Allbaugh as a consultant on issues including disaster relief and homeland security. Mr. Allbaugh was the director of FEMA during the first two years of the Bush administration.
