Not yet time to intervene in impeachment, says SC
(Man, these guys are getting a whiny as the ReThugs were when they tried to impeach Clinton. Does the Philippines have the same form of Government as wee do?)

Not yet time to intervene in impeachment, says SC

By Jose Rodel Clapano
The Philippine Star 09/03/2005

The Supreme Court refused yesterday to grant a petition asking it to intervene to save an apparently doomed opposition attempt to have President Arroyo removed from office, saying the petition was "premature" and not yet "ripe for adjudication."

Manila lawyer Ernesto Francisco, acting as a private citizen, filed a suit before the high court earlier this week to stop Mrs. Arroyo’s allies in the House of Representatives justice committee from dismissing the three impeachment complaints against her.

The committee threw out the complaints on Wednesday and the 15-member Supreme Court said in a five-page resolution yesterday that Francisco should "wait until all the remedies in the House are exhausted." "This is not yet the time to resolve the issues raised in the petition," the court added.

On Wednesday night, the House committee on justice chaired by Maguindanao Rep. Simeon Datumanong dismissed the original impeachment complaint filed against Mrs. Arroyo by lawyer Oliver Lozano, hours after ruling that it was the only valid petition the panel should take action on and junking the opposition’s amended complaint and that of Manila lawyer Jose Lopez.
