Promises by Bush Amid the Tears

Promises by Bush Amid the Tears

President Bush, facing searing criticism over the federal government's response to Hurricane Katrina, toured New Orleans and the Gulf Coast yesterday in his first on-the-ground look at the desperation that has gripped the region for the last five days.

"I want you to know that I'm not going to forget what I've seen," Mr. Bush said in remarks at the end of the day on the tarmac at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. "I understand the devastation requires more than one day's attention. It's going to require the attention from this country for a long period of time."

Mr. Bush's arrival coincided with long-awaited deliveries of aid to the flood zone. But the president did not interact much with storm victims, and at one site, a Salvation Army truck in Mississippi, those he did see had first been screened by Secret Service agents with metal detectors.

Mr. Bush flew back to Washington from New Orleans without paying a visit to the chaotic makeshift trauma center set up in one terminal at the airport, where many patients evacuated from the city's hospitals were dying before they could be airlifted to other cities.

1. The master of the understatement...
"I want you to know that I'm not going to forget what I've seen,"

Glad to know that you won't forget. All in all, was it an "interesting day", too?"

2. "Mr. Bush's arrival coincided with long-awaited deliveries ..."
BULLSHIT.

There is evidence that deliveries were delayed until today.

Impeach the Coward.

3. What kind of evidence?
I did hear that National Guard was being held up for a while, but do you have a link?

If true, how fucking Rovian...every action taken with political purpose...

7. I would also like a link
I'm not saying I am automatically disagreeing with you, but I'd like to see the evidence for it before I make a full judgement.

8. Jack Cafferty, a newman on daytime CNN shares your belief
He angrily pointed it out Friday morning, from what I've read posted by several DU'ers who were watching just as he said it. People have been commenting on his demeanor which has grown increasingly intense, angry in the last two days.

When have we EVER seen anything about George W. Bush which would make us able to think OTHERWISE, anyway? It would be uncharacteristic of him to have not taken maximum advantage of the moment.

13. Is that what it is? I don't have t.v. but decided to watch video here and
I was annoyed with his little charade anyway, and I became completely mesmerized by that jaw thing. I actually played the video twice. It was so weird.

I didn't know that was a drug thing. Hmm?

11. The hugging
was obviously meant to be the equivalent of the "standing on rubble with bullhorn and arm around fireman's shoulder" photo-op after 9/11.

9. Heh, Another Bumiller Puff Piece
Even her talented wordsmiting can't hide how much of a creep he is. How easy would it be to find Bush supporters in Biloxie who won't tear him apart on the spot?

Evacuees at Cajundome wait for first lady, and for lunch
Jan Risher -- Friday, September 2, 2005
jrisher@theadvertiser.com

As the first lady toured the Red Cross shelter at the Cajundome this morning, a line of evacuees waiting to eat their lunch trickled out the door of the Dome.

First lady Laura Bush arrived about midday to tour the shelter and meet evacuees.

By 12:50 p.m., the trays of food were still covered and hungry evacuees stood in line, holding empty plates. Rice, beans and jambalaya were on the menu. About that time, volunteers began rolling the carts of food into position to serve.

14. Grind Bush's bones to make some bread
Where's the Giant when you need him?

"Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman. Be he alive or be he dead. I'll grind his bones to make my bread."
