Homeland Security won't let Red Cross deliver food
Homeland Security won't let Red Cross deliver food
Saturday, September 03, 2005
By Ann Rodgers, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05246/565143.stm

As the National Guard delivered food to the New Orleans convention center yesterday, American Red Cross officials said that federal emergency management authorities would not allow them to do the same.

Other relief agencies say the area is so damaged and dangerous that they doubted they could conduct mass feeding there now.

"The Homeland Security Department has requested and continues to request that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans," said Renita Hosler, spokeswoman for the Red Cross.

1. Why was the asshat head of the Red Cross praising * last night
on Larry King?

She said she was with * in MS and was convinced he was caring and compassionate and doing all he could. She sounded like a * appointee.

Let's get the truth out there.

And even Bush said earlier this week to donate to the RC. There has to be a government connection.

26. Go take a disaster response class at your local chapter
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 01:12 PM by Danieljay
and you'll perhaps learn the facts about the American Red Cross. They say donate to the Red Cross because it is THE #1 relief organization on the planet. The $300,000 salary of the ARC head is well deserved. I work for the American Red Cross as well as volunteer.

Let me tell you something about the Red Cross I work for. We respond in Portland to an emergency every 32 flippin hours. When your home burns down or an apartment catches fire, WE are the ones there with the blanket and setting up a temporary shelter. WE are the ones who assist the families in getting what they need, food, shelter, money, loans, access to other help. Right now in Portland, WE, the Red Cross are setting up a shelter to house 1000 hurricane victims. There are no glass highrises here. Our staff consists of 50. Our volunteer base consists of 1200 for this chapter alone. The money that is donated for Katrina goes to Katrina unless they specify otherwise. When I sit my ass in the phone bank thats been staffed 18 hours a day by staff and volunteers, we ask if the money should go to Katrina or support efforts. Most of the aid goes directly to the victims. That being said, somehow the organization must exist to support the work of the volunteers that make things happen. Our staff is busting their asses around here to respond to this emergency. We are having 3 Fast Track trainings just this month followed by immediate 21 day deployments. We are sending mental health professionals for 14 day deployments.

Perhaps we cant' get into New Orleans, thats not our decision. Blame the flippin Bush Administration. We have thus far sheltered close to 100,000, served almost 250,000 meals in the last 4 days. Do you have any idea the amount of money, creativity and work that goes into putting that kind of response together? Has there been money misappropiated in the past? Probably. That being said... for effs sake. Lay off the Red Cross. Go down to your local chapter and ask how you can get involved. We will be sending up to 150 people just this month from Portland alone, more in November and December. WE pay the airfare. WE pay the lodging and food. And its the generous donations of the People of the world to the Red Cross that makes that happen.

A real prune face.

So nice of New York to give the two million $$.
That too seemed like a political plus for his next election.

Don't mind me, I don't trust any of these clowns right now.

32. Fed by the guard
The article says that the food is to be passed out by the troops. They are trying to maintain order and having to worry about Red Cross people running around is an added burden to an already difficult situation. It's bad enough that the reporters and camera crews are undoubtedly having to be "protected" by troops who could be doing something else. Maybe we'll hear about it when a woman is raped and the guard who should have been watching her was having to tail Geraldo and make sure the people didn't crowd him.

6. Not come back??? That insinuates that the Red Cross was ever aloud in NO
in the first place. To my knowledge the Red Cross hasnt been aloud in NO AT ALL!

Why is this just being reported now?

I found out about this late last night. I'ts no wonder that people are starving to death. We were hearing "the calvary is coming" but little did we know that the policy had been set by Homeland Security (No Red Cross aloud in New Orleans)

Why wasnt this reported sooner??

9. They keep running commericials saying:
"We're on the scene". I know they must be providing aid outside of NO, but they are not "on THE scene".

Shouldn't they be emptying out the Astrodome and finding those families real housing by now? I'd feel better if the MSM would show exactly what the RC is spending their donations on.

17. Yes, keep out relieve organisations
so that suffering gets even more unbearable. More taxpayer money will be willingly given by congress, to be donated instantly to Halliburton and the likes, who will do nothing to relieve the suffering efficiently but feasibly pocket the money like in Iraq, while the real helpers are being kept outside, which will lead to even more unbearable suffering... and thus ad infinitum.

There seems to be a certain logic behind keeping the red cross out, financially that is.

20. Political appointees with no experience with natural disasters, ...
who replaced or forced out experienced FEMA personnel, are now keeping out experienced Red Cross helpers. The Bushistas want to play Keystone Cops during a disaster. Hey, wrong film, idiots: you're supposed to play in comedies, not disaster flicks. If only it were a movie: The Constant Panderer, or something, and not a real, life-and-death tragedy.

We should not be mad at the Red Cross for not getting help to the victims. We should be mad at the government for not letting them in.

I believe the Red Cross is in the surrounding areas trying to help.

Whatever you think of the Red Cross, you do not have to donate to them and that is NOT what this thread is about. Let's not splinter off onto a topic about what the Red Cross is like. Let's look at the government and demand answers as to why they are starving our fellow citizens. At least the Red Cross seems to be trying to help, our government seems to be doing their darnedest to kill them!
