Bush tour a 'photo op', says Senator
"Perhaps the greatest disappointment stands at the breached 17th Street Levee," said Landrieu, a Democrat.

"Touring this critical site yesterday with the President, I saw what I believed to be a real and significant effort to get a handle on a major cause of this catastrophe.

"Flying over this critical spot again this morning, less than 24 hours later, it became apparent that yesterday we witnessed a hastily prepared stage set for a presidential photo opportunity.

"The desperately needed resources we saw were this morning reduced to a single, lonely piece of equipment.

1. Finally she starts actually talking
Previous to this she was a talking head. Makes me wonder if she
just caught the mood of the country and decided to ride the political wave. But no matter, at last she finally spoke up.

She praised Bush as her constituents only hoped for an exit. Many of them handicapped.

5. No she doesn't - I'm proud of Mary and her hard work
When this hurricane first happened she did the right thing in turning to Bush and assuming that he would be there to help her region. When he failed to do that she then spoke the truth about how he failed.

When tragedy strikes we shouldn't be going all political. Mary is a great democrat and I hope she's around for years. But then I forget this is DU and unless someone is a raging far left liberal who agrees with every single point that the poster believes in then we automatically trash them and label them as a DINO

16. The war is a tragedy...
Yet I've seen your post and they are "all political" in response to that. Who are you to say what others should and should not be doing when you yourself have done the very same thing? Furthermore, blanket statements about DU always come off as sounding so cliché and without on real reason. In case you weren't aware of it, Senator Landrieu was on television proclaiming her pride for President Bush's leadership and Anderson Cooper called her on it. I don't think that's "going all political," but rather it represents an observation of the situation. When she was doing that in light of the common knowledge that Bush cut funding for FEMA and the New Orleans levees, Landrieu seemed quite the DINO.

21. Fortunately, Mary has changed her mind.
I think the Congressional Black Caucus and NO mayor had something to do with that, in addition to Bush's lack of response and flagrant exploitation of the disaster--as when standing on a pile of rubble in NYC or the "mission accomplished" air craft carrier or the November plastic turkey episode at Baghdad International.

DU is probably united in knowing Bush would only be photo-oping once he got near the disaster site. Mary is more naive, though today less so.

24. Most definitely...
I suppose that is one of the most redeeming qualities about Democrats v. Republicans -- we are more prone to reflect on a situation and then adapt our words and actions accordingly. Whereas we do it out of reasoned debate, Republicans do it out of sheer hypocrisy and political expediancy... Broad brush, but this is more often the case than not.

37. Give us a break
With the history of this administration why would she assume that Bush would help anyone? His whole life is based on photo ops, the man has no substance and no sense of resposibility.

A deaf, dumb, and blind man could have figured out that Bush was full of crap, but at least he would have an excuse. The good Senator
has all of her faculties intact and she still believed that by kissing up to Bush the people of New Orleans would have received help?

Maybe she should have waited until there was proof of aid, before she kissed his a**!!!

I fully intend on linking to your page when I write and post my weekly Assclowns of the Week article (a cheap, poor-man's ripoff of DU's Top Ten Conservatives of the Week, which is taking the week off).

Keep up the good work.

14. Thanks, JP.
I rarely even try a big article like that, but it needed to be done.

The fabric of lies was woven together, piece by piece, during the day Friday. The casual observer could come away thinking that Bush solved everything.

He didn't even come close.

I don't want them to hide the death toll in the name of "privacy"

I want as many as possible counted or they are forgotten again. I want the enormity of this crime in bald numbers. If only the feds, the ng, and halliburton can go in, they will make sure the numbers are under any generally accepted number---they can't afford more.

Please help spread the word to keep the pressure on about this.

27. very important, parallels some things that have been reported in the
European press.

We need to dig hard in the European hurrican relief coverage for FACTS as opposed to the hyped propaganda we are being fed.

I am very afraid that part of what is happening is deliberate incitement of racial/class violence around the country in order to "justify" something this administration has been working toward - effective suspension of constitutional rights (those that are still theoretically left) and calling in the Pentagon-directed military for martial law.

I'm working on a draft long post about this. I think this real possibility is being mostly overlooked and is a great danger. They have been moving toward it for years, and this could be their excuse.

Recommended.

46. Nothing Without Hope - Thank you for the work you have done putting the
pieces of the puzzle together about martial law and bringing in regular military because the National Guard is in Iraq to impose SS style murders of populations that the ones in the National Guard would know as friends and neighbors of their home town and would be less inclined to go on a Fallujah rampage against citizens of their own town whereas regular military being trained to kill would not feel the connection and be more inclined to commit atrocities against protesting Americans.

I saw your post and link but never got back to the threads and though I cut and pasted your posts the DU links don't work from cut and paste because they are truncated. If you could post the links on a current thread or in my mailbox, I would appreciate it.

I think you have done some important work and amid the rejoicing in Bush's downfall keep looking for the next evil move. We really do need to be on our guard and not underestimate the evil of the Bush Crime Family and PNAC.

American Stranger, I'm sorry you're not getting the credit for this excellent research and writing but pulling that together is a great service to your country. Now we must push to get this in the national media. With the degree of disgust they've expressed lately, I can see that possibly happening.

40. Impeach CEO Bush-Now

Enough is enough. I've emailed my Senators Durbin and Obama and my congressperson to begin an impeachment hearing immediately.

We the People should demand that this president be the CEO that he claims to be and resign from his position of honor and trust. Any other CEO whose horrible job performance caused hundreds, perhaps thousands, to die would be fired by the corporations board of directors.

WE (the People) ARE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS of this beleaguered country, and it’s time we demanded our hired CEO leave his job. If he doesn’t, we throw him out via impeachment and a trial in the Senate.

44. German TV Says Bush staged Food Distribution Photo Op
Dutch viewer Frank Tiggelaar writes:

There was a striking dicrepancy between the CNN International report on the Bush visit to the New Orleans disaster zone, yesterday, and reports of the same event by German TV.

ZDF News reported that the president's visit was a completely staged event. Their crew witnessed how the open air food distribution point Bush visited in front of the cameras was torn down immediately after the president and the herd of 'news people' had left and that others which were allegedly being set up were abandoned at the same time.

The people in the area were once again left to fend for themselves, said ZDF.
