Gore accompanies about 140 arrivals from New Orleans but declines to take credit

By ROBERT WILSON

(snip)

About 140 people - mostly elderly and infirm - arrived Saturday at McGhee Tyson Airport on a chartered mercy flight from hurricane-ravaged New Orleans, welcomed to East Tennessee by a bright sun and a host of medical professionals straining at the reins to help their fellow human beings without regard to whether they were on the clock.

The displaced hurricane victims came to Tennessee on a hastily arranged flight, accompanied by doctors and carrying whatever they had in boxes, bags or, in one case, an old suitcase tied up with rope.

Former Vice President Al Gore arranged the flight and was on board, but he declined to take credit for the airlift, fearing it would be "politicized."

1. That's President Gore, everyone -- got that Scalia and the rest of you...
... SCOTUS traitors.

No wonder you destroyed his Presidency and the Republic - he actually cares about every citizen not just the haves and have mores.

Peace.

7. Now that's what an American President acts like
steps up and takes charge in a crisis w/o wanting photo-ops.

I keep reading that he is paying for this out of his own pocket and they will continue to fly people out.

won't the mercy flights and evacuations be halted on Monday if Bush visits New Orleans again?

11. Our TRUE PRESIDENT! President Gore. God Bless Him!
And he paid for it out of his own pocket. He'll never be "former" to me. God, I can't bare it. Our country was robbed when Gore lost his win to those lying, thieving neo-con, corporate and MSN -- AGR! I can't say what I want to say here.

I'm too much a lady!

God bless you, my exiled President Gore. Imagine if he had not been robbed of his true position in the year 2000. I would bet my last dollar 9/11 and this disaster would "never" have happened and our country would sailing along as normal, if not way, way better then ever!

My rant. Sorry folks. It's been one of those "again" trying weeks. And we ain't seen nothing yet. That's what scares me.

22. Damn right!
Enough of the RW's useless talking points.

It's called "action" Freeptards, and "leading by example". A foreign concept to the RW, but cherished by cultures worldwide.

Leadership. Thank you, Al.

23. All the mess, the death, the destruction
that BushCo have wrought. All unnecessary. President Gore - what a guy.

Think of where we might be as a nation if we had had leadership. Excellence chance WTC would still be standing, Saddam gone but no iraq war and progress in every social arena that would have mitigated the natural disater Katrina and met the challenge with organisation and leadership.

Maybe one thing this calamity will finally show to republicans is just how BushCo has brought America so low in world esteem. How he has weakened the US in the eys of the world and destroyed credibility and respect.

24. I love this part:
From this story:

Former Vice President Al Gore was on the plane, helping patients. He did not grant interviews to reporters Saturday.

``My understanding was that he made this happen, that he actually arranged for this aircraft,'' Webb said.
