Bush: U.S. will "do what it takes" after Katrina

BATON ROUGE, La., Sept 5 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush, under fierce criticism for his government's slow response to Hurricane Katrina, promised on Monday that the U.S. would "do what it takes" to help victims of the devastating storm get back on their feet.

Bush was on his second visit to Louisiana and Mississippi, where the storm has caused one of the biggest humanitarian crises in U.S. history. On his first tour on Friday, five days after the huge scale of the disaster became apparent, the president acknowledged the initial relief effort had been "unacceptable."

"If it's not right, we're going to fix it, and if it is right, we're going to keep doing it. And this is just the beginning of a huge effort," Bush pledged after meeting disaster relief officials at an emergency operations center in Baton Rouge.

He added: "This is one of the disasters that will test our soul, and test our spirits."

9. REALLY?
How long after. 3 years? It's TOO LATE... "after Katrina" was TUESDAY! His lazy butt didn't even surface there until FRIDAY and he DELIBERATELY WITHHELD AID to those people until then so he could have his "I'm-such-a-hero" photo-op.

DESPICABLE LITTLE MONKEY!

10. It will take your resignation sir---that's what it will take
too little, too late, too grudging. Drop the "little engine that could" rhetoric.

You left those people to die. They were Americans, I am American, the survivors are Americans. I will not stop hammering on you people for your crimes until I die.

Resign you disgrace, resign.

18. Plus: he's sent close to two thousand Americans to die, and
over ten thousand to lose limbs (or else) in a war of aggression he catapulted lies (and still did until he acknowledged it was for oil, which is prohibited under International Law) to the nation and to the world. And that doesn't count the tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians he literally murdered and maimed, using illegal weapons the likes of depleted uranium, cluster bombs, and even Vietnam's banned napalm.

How come this despicable murderer is still allowed to babble his crap of hubris while pretending to be the President of the UNITED STATES???? :wtf:

Because in terms of money and other resources, that is what it would take. To start.

38. I doubt he will. Though I'm anticipating huge cuts in Soc. Sec. benefits
SOON. Perhaps as justification for disaster relief which "tested" the already weak budget...and how some Americans will just have to make "sacrifices" (the elderly and disabled)...who he planned on cutting benefits from soon anyway. I could be wrong, but Shrub ALWAYS gets what he wants. This would give him an excuse to do what he planned to do all along with SS.

23. After 9-11 he said his first priority was catching Bin Laden ...
"DEAD OR ALIVE."

A few months later he said he didn't care about Bin Laden.

So now we're supposed to believe him.

The time to help was when the levees needed strengthened.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, but the welfare of the American People is not a priority for the robber barons.

Mr. President? You said that about Iraq, Afghanistan. It seems like all it takes with you is the loss of more and more American lives.

He is always noncommittal personally. Won't get involved. It's up to the rest of the US to get it done.
