Frist Postponing Roberts Hearing - C-Span
Don't have a link. He was flapping his trap on C-SPAN and said they canceled the hearings for tommorrow and him and Specter will let them know when they are rescheduled. Sounds like they might try to go for Thursday.

Roberts hearing delayed until at least Thursday-aide

ReutersMonday, September 5, 2005; 12:37 PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Senate leaders agreed on Monday to briefly delay the start of U.S. Supreme Court nominee John Roberts' confirmation hearing, which had been set to begin on Tuesday, a Republican official said.

The official said the hearing would now begin as early as Thursday and no later than next Monday, with a final decision on timing expected following further discussions.

Yet another story (the nomination) being watched from this side of the border to your north with appalled disbelief ...

5. Frist said Katrina would take up all the Senate's time for the near future
They reported this on one of the news shows. Sorry I can't remember which - was either CNN or MSNBC.

I thought Frist was going to push the death tax thing tomorrow. Maybe he's read the papers and taken the polls.

8. I guess they had to rethink the estate tax right now
especially because Bu$h** and his minions call it the mobid name of "death tax".
The repugs are really getting it all in their faces lately, huh?

It's such a shame , though that they can't give more tax breaks to their base. The estate tax is for people who have more than a
$2 Million estate. Doesn't affect us at all except that we will never see it. We'll just pay more taxes so the rich can be richer.

I guess God is really on America's side.... not Murka's side.

9. They have more respect for Rehnquist than they do for the thousands...
dead in the Gulf coast. Personally, I don't think ANYTHING Bush wants should get done. The only thing I do think needs to be done right now is an investigation of Bush's incompetence and incapacity to do the job of President.

But no doubt they'll try to ram everything through while people are still reeling from the horrors of the Katrina aftermath. Bush has absolutely no shame. I can't even look at him anymore without feeling like I'm going to throw up. And our elected officials who are SUPPOSED to protect us follow blindly along as Bush kills Americans. What happened in Louisiana is a gross violation of the equal protection clause in the Constitution - the fact that Bush is guilty of it is proof that he is incapable of upholding his oath of office. But STILL our elected officials just follow along like sheep.

Don't they understand that the American people are in pain right now and CAN'T deal with their sheet?

Oh, I forgot. They don't care about us.

10. THEY may have respect for Rehnquist. I do NOT.

He is one of the five people responsible for the destruction of this nation by the illegal and unprecidented action they took in Jan, 2001.

When he was alive and now that he's dead (and I say good riddance) I can have no respect for a man who committed treason in my mind. He should not have a burial. He deserves a funeral pyre, in preparation for his eternity in hell.

Bah! and Goodriddance.

12. They may delay it
but I heard them say they still expected him to be confirmed in time for the October start of the SC term. So that means they plan to ram it through in record time, as usual.

14. Frist is delusional
if he thinks the Repug agenda is going anywhere now. Not after this Katrina fiasco. They all better start lawyering up. They're not going to have time for much else.

16. They have to delay it.
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 06:25 AM by Lochloosa
They have to withdraw his name for Justice and resubmit for Chief Justice. Senate rules. Also, dems can make them wait one week before starting hearings. Senate rules.

So don't believe this bullshit about Frist delaying it out of compassion, he's really upset about all the cats that drowned in NO and needs to get his composure back.
