Congressman changes stance on war
The Capital Region's longest serving congressman has changed his stance on Iraq.
Rep. Michael McNulty, D-Green Island, announced Tuesday morning that he will now support legislation requiring that U.S. troops begin withdrawing within a year.
McNulty criticized the Bush administration for actions that have killed or wounded 16,000 Americans and cost an estimated $1 trillion.

“The situation on the ground is steadily getting worse and Americans are dying on an almost daily basis. The facts are that the Iraqis are moving toward a constitution that discriminates against women and which could result in an Islamic theocracy similar to Iran,” he said.
McNulty says 45 members of the House of Representatives, including four Republicans, are now supporting a bill to withdraw from Iraq.
