Pentagon deleted part of official's apology
Edited on Mon Oct-20-03 04:36 PM by rmpalmer
http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/10/20/boykin.statement/index.html

An apology from Lt. Gen. William Boykin for casting the war on terrorism in terms that offended some Muslims originally included a promise that he would no longer speak at religious events, CNN has learned.

But that language was deleted on the advice of Pentagon attorneys and the press office, a Pentagon spokesman said.

Other statements also were withdrawn by the Pentagon, a spokesman said, included Boykin's belief that God put President Bush in the White House.

It's not clear why the changes were made.

<snip>

"I believe that God intervenes in the affairs of men, to include nations, as Benjamin Franklin so eloquently stated. Yes I believe that George Bush was placed in the White House by God as well as Bill Clinton and other presidents."

2. Also...
...because "a promise that he would no longer speak at religious events" would sort of, somehow, kind of imply that he'd done something 'wrong.'

This WhiteHouse is absolutely, positively incapable of accepting blame of any kind for anything. Ever.

The deletion just points out how pathological they are about it. If Boykin made that promise to 'no longer speak at religious events', it would seem like a 'penance' or sanction. And if there was a punishment, then he must have done something wrong. But they can't admit that, so they drop the sanction entirely.

They really are dangerously mad. I'm not kidding about that anymore.

4. Rummy was just defending this guy's free speech
He said something like "we're a free society, people speak their minds."

And now they're rewriting his apology.

5. Boykin is reliably stupid and he is proud of being stupid
and this is why he is in charge for cathing Osama and Saddam.
Since Osama and Saddam worked once for CIA - they become "untouchable" - "hunting down" will never happen.
CIA überalles.

7. Isn't That Nice
Edited on Tue Oct-21-03 02:52 AM by Don_G
A high-ranking Pentagon officer makes a public statement on behalf of the current administration so embarrassing to Dimbo's World Tour, it has to be redacted so the other nations can supply "cannon fodder" just to pull Shrub's ass out of the fire.

I think the biblical reference of a "Burning Bush" is apt here, especially when he stroked his hard-on for oil fast enough to ignite the World's opinion against him.

On Edit: Corrected Typos

9. This General is a loony RW nut
Read this in today's Post:

"....Some of his comments also raise questions about Gen. Boykin's fitness to oversee military intelligence, questions of religious bigotry aside. He describes taking photographs during a helicopter tour before leaving Mogadishu, Somalia, and then finding an unexplained black mark on the developed pictures, which he explains as a manifestation of evil. "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your enemy," he tells the Good Shepherd audience. "It is not Osama bin Laden, it is the principalities of darkness. It is a spiritual enemy that will only be defeated if we come against them in the name of Jesus and pray for this nation and for our leaders."

13. There is one point where Gen. Boykin reveals the truth
Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 06:14 AM by TrueStory
continuing the quote from the WP article:

He also offers this take on Sept. 11: "Whether you realize it or not, I believe there were at least two more airplanes that were headed for major installations in this country. I believe that there was one headed for the White House, and there was one headed for the Capitol, but they were thwarted by the hand of God."

I do belive he knows there were two more airplanes but it has been decided it's enough. I think there was a big discussion about the necessity of an airplane crash into the Pentagon, the { mastermind / CIA / God } decided it's enough - but the Pentagon story was on the media already - and they had to blow a rocket into the Pentagon. Explaining with Gen.Boykins words: "Gods hand thwarted the plane away from Pentagon as well, luckily our Air Force accomplished the mission".

Thanks Boykin for sharing your little secrets with us :)

10. Gen. Boykin makes Gen. Bat Guano look sane.
I half expect Boykin to start ranting about maintaining the "...purity of the essence of our bodily fluids..." any second.

What a complete and utter madman.

14. PBS on the Jim Lehrer News House
Did include Boykin's statement about his belief that God put President Bush in the White House.

PBS was quite critical of Boykin.

However John Warner was pissing in his pants on the senate floor with flowery words of why Boykin will have to lay low for a while.
