I guess for now at least they'll have a roof over their head (even if it's a makeshift one), and have food and water.


GULFPORT, Miss. - At least 100 looting suspects on the Mississippi Gulf Coast face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of $10,000, authorities say.

There were at least 84 people being held Monday at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on looting charges from throughout Harrison and Hancock counties. Most, if not all, have a $10,000 cash bond, which requires the full amount of bail money up-front.

Looting arrests in Jackson County bring the coastal count to 100.

"We're in control about as much as we can be under the circumstances and thanks to the hundreds of officers who have come to help," Harrison County Sheriff George H. Payne Jr. said.

The circumstances, however, are another matter.

Communications problems for a solid week have crippled public safety agencies and the residents who need them. Reaching 911 remains a virtual crap shoot.

If you need help and can't get a call through, officials recommend you flag down a patrol car. Odds are you'll find a marked car, possibly from out-of-state, with officers whose badges match the agency named on their car.

It's not like Wal Mart is not insured. Hell if it was my home, take all my shiat, that is what I pay insurance each month for. They need to worry about the looters named Halliburton that are robbing the treasury.

I get the impression these aren't Wal-Mart shoppers.

The looters in question are going into private homes.

You might feel one way about allowing others to "take all my shiat", other home owners might feel differently about it or can't afford insurance.

4. Okay, what are the statistics for regular theft arrests in a similar

time period? Things like shoplifting, credit card theft, drive aways without paying for gas, etc.

Is this count of 100 for "looting" outside normal statistical bounds?

No? It's more important to stop looters (private property, after all, is sacred), than those who raped and killed people in the mayhem of NOLA.

I see the priorities.

Sadly, I seriously doubt those crimes will ever be solved.

BTW... Different jurisdictions, different police matters to take care of, the looting arrests were made in Mississippi, not NOLA.
