Military: Katrina Won‘t Affect War Plans

WASHINGTON - The military‘s growing contribution to hurricane relief efforts in Louisiana and Mississippi will not diminish its capability to fight the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq , Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Tuesday.

"Let me be clear: We have the forces, the capability and the intention to fully prosecute the global war on terror while responding to this unprecedented humanitarian crisis here at home. We can and will do both," Rumsfeld told a Pentagon news conference.

Appearing with Rumsfeld, Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said more than 58,000 active duty and National Guard personnel are in the region in support of civilian emergency response agencies.

...

In a telephone interview from his operations center at New Orleans International Airport, Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV said his soldiers‘ top priority is finding, recovering and evacuating people who want to get out of the flooded city.

5. Nothing shall get in the way of war-In fact to show our resolve
we must begin another war.

"By attempting to shower us with aid and send in physicians it is clear that Cuba and Venezuela were trying to humiliate us and spread communism. They leave us no other choice but to bomb them."

18. My thoughts exactly!!!
Stay the course, finish the job, and complete the mission are NOT a plan, no matter how often they repeat it. Just as much empty rhetoric as it ever was; even moreso, because the more they repeat it the more empty it becomes.

9. Translation: We will continue to gut the American economy and people
I wonder if anyone TRULY comprehends the fact that
they FULLY intend to kill us all.
Just wait until the new credit card and bankruptcy laws
kick in.
This entire country is going to be swarming with
Katrina-style people who have lost EVERYTHING
and have no where to go and NO hope of rescue.

10. Brave Rumy talk, but I don't believe it
I don't think both the rebuilding of New Orleans (and/or resettlement of the displaced) can be done at the same time as two fairly major wars and a tax cut for the rich. Something has to give.

We, the people, are the "something" thats gotta give.
Remember, we are "useless feeders" to them, unless of
course you are fit to serve in the Empire's army.
They don't need the rest of us and think nothing of
the entire country falling into the condition of New Orleans.
As a matter of fact, that is their plan.

14. Ummm... Wasn't it just announced that the military ....
... has dropped their planned reinforcement numbers for this Fall, in support of the Iraqi elections? Hasn't anyone asked them why they decreased the troop strength from the previously announced levels?
