Conservatives defend general who described war as battle against Satan
WASHINGTON - Breaking with the White House, religious conservatives in Congress defended a Pentagon general who referred to the war on terror as a Christian fight against Satan.

In remarks some say were demeaning to Islam, Army Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin told church audiences his mission is "a battle with Satan." The struggle, Boykin said, is "because we're a Christian nation, because our foundation and our roots are Judeo-Christian ... and the enemy is a guy named Satan."

2. and some comments that make me sick
http://www.sbcbaptistpress.org/bpnews.asp?ID=16892

"Every God-fearing American should pray, pray, pray for General Boykin and his family. Someone said, "We all sleep better when men like General Boykin guard America!" I agree with that and I despise the unthinkable and asinine fact that some take cheap backstabbing shots at a real God-fearing American hero who continually risks his life to protect all of us"

3. You know they are dying to usher in Armegeddon
They have this fantasy that it will be just like LaHaye has described in his Left Behind series. Of course, they will have been swept up into the heavens while all of us are made to suffer.

You want to have an apocalyptic fantasy. Fine. Just leave me out of it!!!

6. Appallingly, Bush has this fantasy too
so does Tom Delay and others. That's what the entire Israel/Middle East foreign policy is about.

They won't acknowledge they will have to kill all Jews that don't convert to Christianity when the Second Coming happens.

26. Every outcome is win-win with fundamentalism on one's side!
It's astounding that in the 21st century we're dominated by this primitive fatalism - this blood cult.

I hope mankind can survive these lunatics.

4. Wonder what those same conservatives would say
if a military officer voiced some facts about Islam; that Muslims consider themselves as People of the Book, and as so are brothers with Christians and Jews;that "Allah" is merely Arabic for God;that Muslims abhor graven images, much less 'idols'. They'd probably label him a terrorist.

5. Fire his ass
They were harsh on the troops that spoke out and said Bush was responsible for the crap we're in. They said it was helping the enemy. Now, they have a guy who's words can/will enrage Muslims the world over and bring more violence to our troops.
FIRE HIM.

10. True
But it doesn't make what he said any better. Trust me, a lot of terrorists are going to use what he said as justification to hurt our troops.
It doesn't matter what rank you have, your words have impact. In this case, negative.

11. The media has portrayed Boykin as some kind of nut but he is mainstream
republican. The republican party has focused on defining the democratic party for over 20 years. The democratic party needs to start working on defining the republican party. This fucking fruitcake fundamentalist is an excellent place to start. He fits right in with Whistle Ass and the Crisco Christian. He may be the most sane of the three.

13. Very good point...
... and right on target. I for one think that an easy majority of religious conservatives agree with every word he said.

16. Thanks. Many moderate republicans and many, many more independent
voters would not vote republican if they realized to what extent the party is controlled by the Reich wing fundamentalists. Or, if the republican party explicitly rejected the demands of those fundamentalists, then they would stop supporting the party. Either way, the country and the world would benefit in my opinion. The democratic party needs to make sure that the public understands the extent of the fundamentalist control of the republican party.

19. He believes "God" chose Bush
That should have a few people raising their eyebrows. The Guardian has a great story about the dysfunctional Bush family. After reading that, I don't see how even the staunchest fundalmentalist could think God picked Bush. A very scary family!

20. Bush believes that God chose Bush
so that Bush would be president when 9/11 happened. Bush has told many people this. Bush also believes that God told him to go after al Qaeda and Saddam and to work on peace in the Middle East, but only until the 2004 campaign begins.
Abbas said that at Aqaba, Bush promised to speak
with Sharon about the siege on Arafat. He said
nobody can speak to or pressure Sharon except
the Americans.

According to Abbas, immediately thereafter Bush
said: "God told me to strike at al Qaida and I
struck them, and then he instructed me to
strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am
determined to solve the problem in the Middle
East. If you help me I will act, and if not,
the elections will come and I will have to
focus on them."

23. He later said
That God chose Clinton and the other presidents. So I guess God chose Sadam? God caused the planes to crash into the WTC? That settles it, God is in charge. I guess there's not much left for us to do - just sit around and watch God do his thing.

24. Orwell lives!
It's America vs. Satan now but America in effect practices Satanic beliefs...Look out for number one first, screw the little guy with less power who looks for a piece of your pie, go for and deliberately try to hurt those that criticize you...Kill them if necessary...Lie, cheat and steal your fucking heads off as long as it reaps you personal gain...Power, unlimited power, is what they want, and have succeeded in getting, to a large amount...And they use their power, almost always, on getting more power!

See, he's a "conservative", and he was talking about SANTA, not SATAN. See, he dislikes the Jolly One's penchant for charity, mercy, and giving.
