Democrats call on Bush to fire FEMA chief

WASHINGTON — Top Democrats on Tuesday urged President George W Bush to fire Michael Brown, the top official leading the Hurricane Katrina relief effort, amid charges of a lethargic and inadequate disaster response.

Democratic Senator Barbara Mikulski said, among other complaints, that Brown lacked the experience to handle the challenging job of coordinating relief operations during a catastrophe on the scale of Katrina.

Lets bring in someone who's a professional in emergency management," she said, charging that on his watch, FEMA — the Federal Emergency Management Agency — has gone "from a professional agency to a crony agency.

"I'm calling that Michael Brown leaves FEMA — either voluntarily or involuntarily," she said.

4. Not good enough - the republicans will never impeach
bush but he has got to go. He absolutely must resign.
The entire administration must resign. We should have things in place to replace the administration. And no we don't want the present "shadow" government. BUSH MUST RESIGN NOW and they all must go with him. We would be better off without a government at the top at the moment.

5. We all know that isn't going to happen.
This administration takes no fault, ever.

What would be more useful that asking this idiot to leave, or bumping him for the morons that work for him (see earlier post about them being less qualified than HE is), would be to appoint a new one.

We keep this idiot on this project.

Assign a new one immediately. This one is tasked with defining readiness for future problems. Regional response networks, etc.

Make a big push to get somebody who can be respected, and set them up. Do it so their boy doesn't lose face, and this might happen.

Yes, we have two at that point, but as soon as this is over, then he and his lackies can slink into the shadows.

Firing him, or Bush for that matter aren't going to fix anything with all the people in line behind each of them.

Let's be realistic, what would actually benefit the country, in a manner that they might actually do it? Not firing everybody in sight.

That said, I would like to see the upper tier at FEMA hunted for sport.

7. Any change will have to come from masses of people
in the streets demanding it. We are otherwise stuck with our present
system.

6. He would first have to admit his first mistake.
I like the impeachment route. It lets * avoid having to say he was wrong.

8. A meek and hollow request methinks.
If they had any courage at all, they'd be calling for impeachment proceedings. WTF happened to the assumption that "the buck stops" at the president's desk? LOSERS!

following 9-11 - it was a big push to get the patriot act and homeland security in place "QUICKLY"

Invade Iraq -- had to be done "QUICKLY"

most of his other legislation - all had to be done "QUICKLY"

but come time to investigate HIS FAILURES - and it's time to drag your feet

When you fail in this administration (a al, Rice, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, and Bolton) you can count on advancing in your career.

14. What about Homeland Security ?
Wasn't a Department of Homeland Security created to develop plans for this sort of thing. Didn't Tom Ridge do anything except make up that asinine color code? Didn't he quit because he couldn't get by on his meager government pay and who the hell took his place?
