Hussein's billions found, says U.S.
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2003/10/21/MNGMT2FSGC1.DTL

Douglas Jehl, New York Times

Washington -- U.S. investigators have evidence that $3 billion that belonged to Saddam Hussein's government is being held in Syrian-controlled banks in Syria and Lebanon, Bush administration officials say.

A delegation led by the Treasury Department has spent nearly two weeks in Damascus trying to win access to accounts established by the former Iraqi government or its confederates, the officials said last week. Syria has promised to cooperate but has so far failed to do so, the officials said.

A U.N. resolution passed after the U.S.-led war against Iraq calls on all nations to seize and return to the American-administered Fund for Development in Iraq all assets of the former Baghdad government so they may be used to benefit the Iraqi people.

... The officials acknowledged that their information was not entirely up to date, and they said the American investigators, including a team from the Internal Revenue Service, did not know for sure whether the $3 billion was still in the banks.

4. The EU banker said US transferred 12 Billion out of Iraq - we "find" 3 B ?
Let's see how the US Media's short term memory is - will they now check out the CIA transferred Iraq Bank Billions out of Iraq story? - they did not bother a few months ago when the story surfaced.

My bet is that the US Media will just publish the above Rove handout - and not do any extra work.

I think I know my US Media!! :-(

5. A-Ha! This should shut those naysayers up
Bush has been telling us all along Saddam had billions of dollars hidden away but all those liberals kept on saying he didn't have any money. Well looky here, Saddam's fortune has been found. And the liberals said the war was based on lies. I hope they enjoy eating crow.

Mr A Sharon, of Down Town Tel Aviv, Israel? Or maybe Mr G W Bush of Midland, Texas, joint account holder with Mr Neil Bush (savings and loans banks being his speciality) and Mr Jeb Bush (hopefully soon resident at Florida State Penitentiary)

19. I don't know why, but this reminds me of an old Marxist joke
Chico: "Did you know there is a million dollars hidden in the house next door?"

Groucho: "There is no house next door."

Chico: "Well, then let's build one!"
