BEN GRAY / Staff Gary W. Qualls of Temple, Texas, holds a cross bearing his son's name on Thursday at the Georgia Capitol. He removed the cross from Cindy Sheehan's anti-war headquarters in Crawford, Texas.

A Texas father whose son was killed in Iraq spoke at a small rally at Georgia's state Capitol on Thursday, criticizing the anti-war protests of Cindy Sheehan.

(snip)

Qualls, whose son, Marine Lance Cpl. Louis Qualls, was killed in Fallujah in 2004, said Sheehan's actions are "wrong, unethical, unjust" and "evil." Qualls said Sheehan is destroying troop morale by advocating a troop withdrawal that would harm the Iraqi people and hurt America's war on terror.

The gathering, which was promoted by the Georgia Republican Party, took place on the eve of a Sheehan visit to Atlanta. Qualls was joined by about 20 people holding signs in support of the troops and Bush. Their messages ranged from "God bless the soldiers that sacrifice for our country" to " 'W' is a Hottie."

Qualls held a white cross bearing his son's name that he removed from Sheehan's "Camp Casey," the headquarters of her protest. "She doesn't speak for us," Qualls said. The camp is named for Sheehan's son, Army Spec. Casey Sheehan, who was killed in Iraq in 2004. Qualls supporters opened up "Fort Qualls" in Crawford in response to Sheehan's efforts.

Sheehan's "Bring Them Home Now Tour" is scheduled in Atlanta today through Monday. She is expected to speak at a church in Stone Mountain on Saturday night.

2. That's Just Wrong
calling Mrs. Sheehan evil? Her actions unjust?

OK, I know there are people who disagree with her. That is okay, we're a diverse country with many points of view. But offer logical arguments that don't insult the woman. We've heard lots of those, "I know she is grieving, but...Her son's sacrifice was not in vain, but if we pull out now it will be...She is upset, but her son chose this, volunteered for it..."

Even I have doubted Cindy Sheehan would really get the answers she wants talking to Dubya again, that she wasn't going to persuade him so her camping out in Crawford was really futile. I know it drew attention to an important issue, but did it really get her what she wanted? No.

But what selfish, smug zealous idealogues to call her evil and unethical.

3. Is calling someone evil, from a fundie's persective, the same as
asking for one of the violent extremist members to "cleanse" the "evil"?

Is it an explicit threat? An implicit threat?

4. 20 whole people in red Georgia?
And about 60 porta-potties, I'd suspect.

W is a hottie? Good grief. Alert Charlie Manson---> serial killers are hot to some people.

And "encouraged" by the rethug party... and calling her "evil"? Ah... the smearing continues.

By the way, rethugs, how is that FEMA rescue going?

<cricket> <cricket> <cricket>

Yep. Exactly what I thought. Now there's true evil.

5. If he's so outraged by Cindy, why does he still have the cross?

The man can say what he will, he's more than earned the right, but why would he want to keep a cross created by "evil" Cindy and her supporters?

6. Wow!!! they even put him in a suit!!!
That cross really don't look like the ones that were at Camp Casey does it?
It looks larger, and crooked like it was just thrown together. And wasn't the Camp Casey crosses painted white?

Also. I think they just allowed him to remove the name from the cross, not the cross itself.
I may be wrong though.

10. I blew right past that observation with the cross. Nice catch, someone
needs to take a look at some of the pictures taken of the crosses and zoom in on a couple, but yes, they were definitely painted white, each and every one of them! I even missed that when I went back to look at the above pic, you can see the knot in the wood, the one he is holding isn't painted! (reference maybe to "old wooden cross"?)

The Swift Boat attack part 2, or is it 3 or 4 now? I've so lost track.

I've so much I'd like to say that I'm just rendered quite simply speechless.

11. Father Kills Son The Ultimate Child Abuse
Want to bet this idiot instilled the idea that his son should join up and fight for his country. I remember him stating that he would be proud if his other son died for his country. The ultimate child abuse!

14. oh fuck him
Bush cares for the soldiers so much the LA National Guard is coming home to find their families displaced in some camp or dead...that's how much Bush supports the troops.

Want to support the troops? The STOP supporting illegal wars. It's really just that simple.
